Does anyone else do it?

I have her in the office when it's quiet and it's quite nice to have her around.

We've been looking for new premises and have selected a new one in part due to the fact there is a large grassed area surrounded by palisade fencing accessed by the fire door at the side of the warehouse. I'm looking forward to moving in next year!

Why?

We're not client facing.

If they're well behaved I think it makes the offices a nice place to be.

What about guide dogs for blind and/or deaf people? We have a guide dog on our office floor that is allowed to roam. It really benefits everyone as they enjoy the dog sniffing for food and saying hello.

Or just dogs in general who do the same.

Who ever built our factory obviously believed in taking their dog to work, we have paw prints in the concrete floor laugh

I take my 2 to several clients - they are so chilled that the meeting enviroment is very relaxed.

My wife also takes them to her office - the staff love them being there and they appear on the company's website (and no she doesn't own the company!).

Personally, I am convinced that my Suki who is now 11 has saved me from several meltdowns over the years - she is very sensitive to my mood and body language and knows when its time to come for a stroke.

I used to have my dog in the office for a short time, but got fed up with dinner not being ready when we got home.

Mine comes to work with me, sleeps under the desk most of the day, barks at the odd delivery man. Perfect.

I visit lots of offices and love it when they have dogs.

Something tells me Twig is more of a cat person. hehe

My bulldog comes to work with me too. I think he prefers the office to my house! Generally well behaved and docile...unless I get the tennis ball out then he pretty much runs into everything with his head.

One of my publishing clients has a branch specialising in doggy titles. The boss always brings her own dog to work with her (where it has a very comfortable bean bag), and it is a joy to see.

But I know that if I ever tried to have a strictly-business meeting there, and ignored the dog, then I would not be welcome in that office again.

Quite right too.

Our two came in to the office for about 10yrs, they stay at home now as my OH only works PT so no need to bring them in.

They were both perfectly happy, some clients made a point of speaking to them, some clients didn't even realise they were here!

Gave me a reason to get some fresh air at lunchtime rather than sit in front of PH which is what I do now.

Of course guide dogs are fine, what a ridiculous thing to even ask. That's like you saying "everyone must wear shoes in the office" and me saying "what if you have your foot in plaster?"

I am, I have 2, but I wouldn't want cats in the office either. Not everyone likes dogs, or cats. Even if you aren't client facing, every office gets visitors. You shouldn't look to inflict dogs or cats on people who may not like them in an environment where they wouldn't expect to encounter them.

Sorry, it sounded unequivocal!

Should this be the case then the dogs go and play elsewhere. It's a fairly small office warehouse/production downstairs, always somewhere for the dogs to go if we do have people in, which occasionally happens. Not everyone's cup of tea obviously but a pleasant work environment, IMO, leads to better productivity levels. Should anyone who works for us complain, we'd not allow it.

Just a bit of fun, and it's nice for the dogs to interact with each other and people all day. They take themselves off for a snooze under a desk if they fancy it.
