The vet sold us some joint supplement but I think I'll use Yumove once this supply has finished.
I suspect supplements are all snake oil, but why take the risk.
I've been giving Yumove to my aging Springer for years and it seems to be a big help, and the last vet we saw reckoned it was good stuff. This old thread may be of interest too http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...The vet sold us some joint supplement but I think I'll use Yumove once this supply has finished.

These are currently being advertised on TV here in the states - Tablets for your dog's brain health...

We always gave our older dogs codliver oil and glucocasmine [sic] tablets for their back legs (GSDs).

Garlic Capsules. for all 4 dogs
Youmove and Synoquin for the 2 oldies.
And the oldies have other meds too - they're low level painkillers/anti inflammatory tablets. Both have arthritis bless 'em.
Edited to add: Tumeric is also good for joints.

gave our GSP garlic and cod liver oil every day, lived till he was 13 but looked half his age. Not sure it was a factor but can't do any harm.. here he is a year before he passed away, what a specimen, went everywhere with me, loved the mountains and loved the beach, what a dog.. much missed and not yet replaced..
Mrs Fungle is a vet and adds the following to our two Sausages' diets, they are 12 & 10 respectively.
VetUK joint supplement.
ProDen PlaqueOff (helps avoid the need an under aesthetic dental)
Royal Canin 'Teckel'
They are both in fantastic health for their age and regular walks and strict monitoring of their weight really helps with their condition.

Cod liver oil has very little benefit on the joints and many products have overtaken it as a joint supplement but products like Yumove or Nutraquin are very good and been designed much more specifically for their purpose. Seraquin contains turmeric which is a natural anti inflammatory, useful in arthritic changes.
