Just over a week ago out collie swallowed a pill bottle lid whole when the other half dropped it whilst preparing his meds. After a while it had not passed through, so off to the vets he was taken. They gave him some paraffin in the hope it would help it out, but it did not. Just made him have fits. He is an epileptic dog and changes can set him off. Still no bottle cap after a few days. Surely we did not miss it. Back to the vets and he gets an xray. No nothing there. So he has an ultrasound. Still nothing. The bill is building through. Thankfully insurance should cover it. Still no lid. We now think he either coughed it up when we weren't looking or pooped it and we just missed it.
So that was last week.
Now our springer has kennel cough. Well that's most of the other half's business shut down for at least 2 weeks. She does dog daycare, walking and boarding. Thankfully we have no boarders at the moment. The worst thing however is that our collie properly freaks out when another dog coughs and guess what...yep, kennel cough makes our springer cough. I think it is now just a matter of time before he has another fit or 2. And to think he has been doing better than he has in the last 12 months.
It looks like the springer will be in the bedroom and the collie in his crate downstairs which is about as far away from each other as we can get them. Can't do it other way round as the springer likes to escape from the crate and come upstairs.

Hmm wish there was a simple answer, but from years of kids, dogs and cats, I think it's just a difficult time. Be warned KC is soooo infectious, it doesnt last for long esp it kennels etc disinfected but dogs can carry it for an indeterminate period, so consider vaccination if cross infection issues are impt.

Contact a holistic vet, they should be able to assist with something fairly safe to use

We have been told that they can be infections for up to 2 weeks, so we are keeping them away from other dogs and walks are just on the pavements. We have spoken to our holistic vet and we have picked up some pills for collie as it does not seem as though he has it yet, although he has a couple of cough/throat clearances this morning. We will see if this turns into kennel cough. If he is going t have it, we want him to have it in the next day or so as otherwise we won't be able to go down to the in-laws at Christmas as we don't want to spread it.
Worst things about not going to the in-laws - I will have to get the tree down from the loft and decorate it.
