Afternoon all,

Some of you may remember I recently collected my gorgeous Collie pup.

He is now 6 months old and turning into a very happy (big) fella.

Sadly he managed to get himself bitten on his nose by an aggressive spaniel on Friday.

The main cut on top of his nose was quite deep and took a few hours to stop, it has since healed well.

Since then a cut on the front of his nose seems to have got bigger and more obvious.

I was wondering what your collective thoughts are on this and how worried/ what I should do?

Thank you

Definitely worth a vet visit, just in case antibiotics are needed.

Lovely dog BTW smile

He looks so much like my collie when he was younger. He has very similar markings on his face.
Mine is now nearly 6 years old and unfortunately suffering very badly with his epilepsy.

I wouldn't panic but would see the vet to be sure.

My Wiem got bitten on the nose at about the same age and it looked similar but healed fine with no intervention other than cleaning after meals.

How much blood was there? When it happened to mine, he looked like he'd murdered a whole family as I walked back to work through the town centre... he was licking it and spreading it all around his face/lips and dripping off his chin.

Thanks for the replies guys, we'll be taking him to the vet this evening just to get it checked.

It seems to have scabbed over on the top today but not on the front of his snout.

It was bleeding all over the place when it first happened but took a minute or two to become really obvious so I know it's not that deep. Just worried about the infection side of things.

Sorry to hear about your epileptic dog, I knew another collie with that and his owners had a pool they had to guard in case he fitted and fell in! Poor dog.

Other than us being able to see it he's very happy in himself and doesn't seem to have a problem. As I write this he's lying on his back happily chewing a bone and farting..

Maybe avoid chewing bones for a couple of days and let it scab. The chewing/sniffing the bone will surely wiggle the nose about

What did your vet say?

It doesn't look too bad and quite clean, just a bugger of an area to protect from knocks/ rubs etc, may need a lampshade collar!!

The vet said he's got a bit of an infection in there and put him on antibiotics for a week.

Shame really as I was quite hoping not to go down the antibiotic route.

Still, it's looking good and the sore bits are nearly all gone. smile

This hound's got a (slightly better) nose for punnage!
