This is a bit of a 2 for 1 post.
I belong to the RSPB and the Gresley Society. He is the chap who designed the locomotive now in the Rail museum at York for holding the Steam rail speed record of 126mph. It is called Mallard.
Now the Gresley Society are planning to erect a Statue of Gresley and originally put a small Mallard beside it as a 'hook' for people to download a QR app and get more info. But not anymore. As two of his Grandsons have now objected to it being demeaning, and totally forgeting his well known love of ducks.
There is a petition to get it reinstated.
Google 'save gresleys duck' for the main site and on facebook. also The Gresley society trust to get you up to speed. trouble is the chairman who worships the ground these two walk on is totally ignoring those who signed petition calling them 'duck fanatics'.
I just though how he would react if he were to be called a 'trainspotter'
If you are like me and would like to see the duck there please sign the petition ( please let all other 'birders' know), and also send him a personal email via the Gresley Trust website.
