Our8yr old Gsd had been looking a bit off for a few days and then stopped eating, was unable to keep even water down with out throwing up clear water/ bile constantly .
An emergency appointment at the vets last Thursday didn't show anything definate but vet said probably wouldn't be good. ( preparing us for the worst I guess)!
We left him there on a drip to rehydrate him and for a scan to determine the problem.
Sat morning we got the news that he looked marginally better, the drip having helped but that he had eaten some chicken and thrown up again.
Sun morn the dreaded news that the scan had shown a large tumour between the spleen and colon which was the problem.
A low chance of a successful opp and this was really the end.
I had already decided that no matter what he was coming home again even if for a few last days and if we had to end things it would be here., so we collected him and brought him back.
He was v happy to be home again but v weak and had lost so much weight ,
We had a gentle walk in a field behind the house and he started to have a 'poo'
I thought this was strange as nothing had gone in for 4 days, he struggled to push out 2 v black solid lumps which looked v odd.
On inspection with a stick they where compacted material/ towel . ( stupid dog had eaten some old towelling)
Was this the problem ??
He has returned to his old self over 48 hrs, eating like a wolf and full of energy again. Returned to vet yesterday and new scan showed nothing .. All clear !!
What an emotional roller coaster we have had over the last week and I can hardly believe things are ok !
Vet was v apologetic for her mistake but I was so over the moon I could've kissed her anyway smile

What they should have said is it was a suspicious mass that needed investigating further.

So glad your dog managed to pass all that matter, surgical intervention would not have been wrong as not all dogs would have been able to push it out!

Very glad your friend is all well again though!!

Having had two dogs with splenic tumours, I am very relieved for you and your dog's sake that it was not that.

Thanks folks, we can still hardly believe it.
Sorry to hear your dogs haven't been as lucky though moorx, hoping they survived ?

Bex, the vet did initially say something about 'felt like a sock' from an initial examination but then the scan seemed to point in another direction .

Just got the bill to come now, 2-3 days care, drip, antibiotics, sedative, scans. He has no idea how much trouble he's caused.

Sadly not - it's an evil disease frown

Your boy is gorgeous; give him a hug from me smile
