It appears to be 'bloated' and it's scales are more pronounced and distended than usual. It's eyes seem to be protruding and it swims in a rather spastic manner. This seems to have been a very gradual change and it's tank-mates are all in fine fettle.

It is about 3 years old and lives in a 55 gallon, double-filtered cold water aquarium, with four other fish.

Any thoughts? I'd hate to lose it.

Dropsy isn't a disease that can be treated per se, it's a symptom caused by a multitude of problems, usually manifests near death.

The best/kindest thing is euthanasia, and check your husbandry to get to the root of the problem (if it's just one fish there may not be a general problem).

Can't help with the fish, but I dropped you a PM the other day and wondered if you got it...
