Woke up this morning to find our 14 year old cat had died overnight.

No signs at all, just there yesterday, and gone today.

Trying not to feel it, but I suspect I'm losing that battle.

So sorry for your loss.

Please do take comfort from the fact that there was no pain or suffering.

Whilst it's little consolation to you now, what a wonderful way to go. Peacefully in your sleep.
No debilitating wasting disease, no traumatic injury, no final trip to the vets.
Comes as a shock to all due to being unexpected.
When my time comes that will do nicely.

frown I'm sorry for your loss, you ARE allowed to feel it and to grieve; after all a pet is a member of your family.

Sorry your cat has passed. Be thankful you didn't have to make the decision and they went peacefully. A lot of elderly cats take themselves off to die so be thankful they passed away at home.

Sorry for your loss too. Our pair are 18 years old, in remarkable shape, but I know one day soon we will lose one.... And they've been with us 18 years so far, near half our own lives and near three times that of our daughter!

For creatures that can be so aloof, so independent and so manipulating (!), I can imagine they leave a remarkable large hole in your life.

Thanks folks. She always kept a low profile during the day so not really noticing her absence. It will be tonight when she does not pop up to say hello before settling down on the end of the bed purring like a lorry.

This helps us a bit, tia and Ami always knew when car stuff was going on and loved coming with us so thought this would befitting, takes a while to get used to them both not being here, thinking of you at such a sad time

Was sorry to read this.

But it was a long life and it sounds like it was a very peaceful ending.

Time heals, but you should remember all of the moments that they made you smile.

Simply the transition of a soul. They will come back to you again, souls that are meant to be together meet throughout eternity.

Thanks for the thoughts guys (and gals).. Doing OK, but I have noticed the rest of the menagerie (Dog and another Cat) seem to have noticed her absence.

Had a long chat with our nine year old daughter on Monday, as she is very sensitive over stuff like this. We had a discussion about heaven and where cats go. We agreed in the end that Heaven is a really nice place, and as it's in the sky it will be whatever we imagine it will be. She's decided that Scaredy is sat contently on her Great Grandpa's knee with her mother cat, and also her kittens that did not make it around her. Quite a nice thought to be honest and we've avoided tears at bedtime with this.

Our other cat spent a long time searching the house and garden for its soul mate.
Sadly, you can't explain it to them, as they keep expecting it to return.

The kids were sad to start, but like your own we were able to explain in a positive way.
