Best ways to help dogs and cats in this heat
Discussion
Got 3 massive fans on, but our older 12 year old cat still seems intent in laying in full sun, have brought her into the house with enough fans to take off, bit are there any signs of overheating to look out for in cats, luckily our sunloving chihuahua wee man knows when he has had enough and even for him its too much
Thank you
Thank you
Most of these suggestions are great (though care with the T-shirt as they can increase body heat if wet). But most of these are for dogs.
Cats are harder to help but moving them out of the sun can help. Providing fans etc all good.
Ice in drinking water maybe but cats can be fussy about that!

We have a paddling pool which Daisy (Frenchie) loves, Barry isn't that keen on water though.
The lounge windows are open if we are in and curtains drawn, front door is left open into the porch so this tends to create a nice draft of fresh air through the house and with the curtains closed the house stays relatively cool.
With the front door open to the porch this means that the dogs can come and go as they please into the garden, if they are too hot then they come in.

We have purchased a Toshiba portable air con unit - Ordered it on Monday @ 1630hrs and it was delivered Tuesday morning 1030hrs.
Fired it up this morning and the rooms Lottie (small Jackadoodle) is in most of the day are lovely and cool.
£300 cost and we are all benefitting from it as it is 33 degrees on the terrace this afternoon.
I cannot remember when it has been as humid as today.

I've got one of those and my bedroom was down to 18c. One of the best buys I've made. Nearly had to get the thick duvet out... and less chance than ever of getting the dog off the bed.
Ironically he spent most of the day asleep in the car at work (as usual) but with the measures I have in place, it was 5c cooler than the workshop or office.

Model number please? We also bought a longer exhaust hose for £25.00 as the one supplied with the unit was not long enough.
