Today we had to have our 13 year old Irish setter put to sleep.

Despite knowing it was the best thing we could do for her it still feels st.

2 weeks ago she got hepatitis, so she spent a week in the vets on a drip receiving antibiotics, but she wasn't eating much.

Monday we were allowed to bring her home as other than not eating much she seemed to of beaten it, but the end of this week she went down hill again seemed to of given up fighting.

Even though when it's someone else's dog you say it's the best kindest thing you could do, when it's your own though it doesn't seem quite so convincing.

I'm so sorry for your loss, even worse when they seem to rally round to start with. You are right, I have always had to seek advice of my colleagues when faced with such decisions, yet I can help others when they need it.
Take care, in time you will remember the memories with a smile not tears.

As a fellow dog owner, I'm saddened to hear this - you can never really understand someone's pain until you have a dog yourself. Stay strong - clearly you did the selfless thing. Do you see yourself getting another?

I'm very sad for your loss. I know there'll be many tears shed tonight. I'll raise a glass to your dog and you, hoping you consider owning another dog in the future. They really are your BEST friend.

We have 2 others so we're not dog free yet, I can't ever see us not having 2 dogs to be honest.

Our Springer is 16 in July so I guess we must be doing something right.

Thanks for the well wishes.

I'm really sorry to hear this. It's horrible, I know frown

It doesn't feel like it now, but time will help to heal the loss.

So sorry. frown

A year ago we lost our wonderful old kitty, she is so terribly missed. They are a huge part of our lives and leave a massive hole as a result. Clichéd I know but when you think of them, make sure you think of the good times you had with them. It does make a difference.

So sorry for your loss. But you did the hardest and kindest thing for the animals who trust us - letting them go before they suffer too much.

Your souls will meet again in time...

Sorry to hear this. It is when you think they are improving, then go downhill very quickly and you have to make that decision. I too experienced this a few weeks ago - totally heartbreaking it is.
