Why would you post a low quality picture and expect everyone to be able to make sense of it?

Well I am sorry but I can see what it is ! If you tap the photo to open the thumbsnap you can see its a black squirrel ! And as I say not something you see everyday , I'm sorry that it is low quality but it was taken with my I phone at a distance and then enlarged , thought it was an interesting photo but ho hum ! If you want people to look at your photo, make it easy for them. Right click, view image info, copy/paste with pic tags:

Still no idea what it is though, could be the back end of a small beaver.

Of course you know what it is, you took the photo hehe

I couldn't make it out at all but can just about now you have pointed it out, never heard of black squirrels before, guess there is a genetic 'twist' in a nearby family. And yes it is interesting but a hint would have been nice!

I hadn't heard of a black squirrel either, so I googled it and apparently they were brought over from North America by the duke of Bedford and he either released them or they escaped and they have spread from that ! But I'm willing to be corrected !😃 if wrong !

The reason I asked is that there are a large number (or were) living on Letchworth common... Maybe the reason why there's a pub there called the Black Squirrel.
When my parents were living in Stotfold there was a pair who would visit them every day demanding food!

They can occur in any population of squirrels, just like white ones or true albinos, they don't need to be imported, they just spontaneously occur every now and then.

Here's one from Letchworth (ipad quality, so not great). Also home to the UK's first roundabout.

Two fascinating insights to my home town.
