Feather loss on chickens, moult or something else?
Discussion
After some thoughts on this and if I need to be concerned.
A few months ago my hens lost all feathers from their underneath, between the legs almost up to their rears. The hens are around 10 months old and were all bought from the same person at the same time.
I had a read up on it and had decided that with the longer nights, less daylight it was just natural moult and not anything to worry about.
Four of the six are well under way with regrowing the feathers, but two are still completely bald. There is no redness, they do not seem irritated by it and there is no sign of them scratching/pecking at the skin. Both are eating and drinking as normal and laying in full force.
The coop is cleaned regularly and dusted with a red mite barrier and this has always been the case. I've not changed chemicals or food at all.
So, as mentioned, any ideas what this may be?
