help with dog with asthma
Discussion
Hi we are currently treating our nali for asthma, on steroids and are now waiting for the spray to go into the nebuliser (hope that's spelt right!)
And then to try and administer the inhaler, also have a diffuser that let's out some steam infused with eucalyptus oil to help breathing, does any one have any tips how to successfully administer the asthma spray and is there anything else we should be doing, he's just coming up to 7 years and at night he sounds as if he needs to blow his nose bless him
Any advice would be really welcome
Thank you

Asthma in a dog is almost unheard of. Cats yes (my cat is on an inhaler for a different condition though. Why have they diagnosed asthma?
If you go on you tube there are videos showing how to admin inhalers via a spacer specially cat designed, they may fit over the nose of a small dog. Your vets can order one in.
Eta, just looked it up as unfamiliar with dog asthma, they tend to use the word over allergic bronchitis which I am more familiar with. Do you know what the trigger is?

What tests have they done? Xrays/swabs/ nasal flush.
I am a bit confused as to how it has been diagnosed as a bronchial allergy if chest/throat are clear. Did they confirm this with xrays?
If there is a nasal discharge and it's clear then allergy is most likely but you'd expect a response with antihistamines and usually sneeze a lot but not congested sounding. If the discharge is mucousy then they should have or should be checking for bacterial/fungal issues in the nasal chambers and foreign body (eg grass seed)
It could be the sun affecting the eyes causing the reaction but have to wonder why that would be after 7yrs. I assume no eye sight issues.

Thanks for that, think they are treating it as allergy as he has intermittent itchy ears and a while ago he started to nibble and lick at his feet
No mucas bubbles recently but sometimes it sounds like he has got a cold and needs his nose blowing
Not sure what to try next as they said his lungs and chest was clear and he is good in himself and eating fine???
