It's not that he has no appetite, it's just that he is such a fussy eater.

He's nearly 4 now and we have tried every type of dog food on the market, from cheap bargain supermarket rubbish to expensive stuff. Dry food, stuff that looks like expensive pâté, the lot.

I've had dogs al my life (Border Terriers) so I know they can be fussy at times. Our litle bugger takes things to extremes.

The latest food he hates is Wainwrights. It's been the same story. We bought him some and he loved it. We bought another weeks supply and he won't touch it.

I've tried the set meal times thing, taking food away and putting it back down. Occasiinally the pretending to give it to next doors cat thing works.

He will go for days without eating even though he is clearly hungry - downing dog chews, treats etc.

He hates Bonio biscuits, yet when I take him down my local dog friendly pub, he'll eat Bonios given to him by the landlord.

Right now he is eating. It's freshly bought cooked chicken. Left overs from last night. Hell eat chicken all day long.

I suppose the answer is to just let him eat chicken.....

Can only quickly reply but im guessing its the leftovers and treats that taste nicer than what your feeding him so hes just waiting until you cave and give him something better.

Some dogs will refuse to eat in the extreme. Though the only way to truly tell is to not feed ANYTHING for 2 days.

However if he really does prefer home cooked foods it is possible to do, quite easy really, there is good info out there.

Lily's Kitchen wet food may be worth a try but it is expensive.

Some will suggest raw and if you are up for it it is worth a try but it is not for everyone so home cooked may be the best alternative to standard dog food.

He's gone 3 days with out eating until I caved in.

I'd love for him to live off our food but seeing as most of what we eat is spicy food, I can't see that doing him much good.

The problem we have with giving him new dog food is that he will generally eat it for a few days then just refuse. Usually when you've gone out and bought a load of it.

I had thought "rivalry" of another dog might help, but whe my friend brings his Cocker Spaniel bh round she goes to his bowl, finishes the lot and he doesn't bat an eyelid.

My friend has a collie who is 14 and she has always been terrible with food even though she has always been surrounded by other dogs. Her pattern is too generally eat smallish amounts for a day or two then eat properly. Always been this way and suited her so far.

Some dogs are funny with their food!

You could try Natural Instinct or Nutriment raw food. You don't need to do anything to it yourself, just defrost it and serve. If your dog likes chicken, he might enjoy raw meat.

He's rejected his latest bowl of dog food but has just gorged himself on a chicken and ricevthing that I made.

At least I know his belly is full .

I do like the idea of another dog.

"if I ignore this food long enough he'll crack and make me chicken with rice"

Ours is part bedlington and she is similarly fussy with food, although she eats it eventually. Getting her spayed made her much hungrier, strangely! Not an option in your case I know hehe

Surely being an animal he has some sort of common sense that he has to eat. I don't want to harm him by 'starving' him.

The little git is now fast asleep on the sofa, belly full of chicken and rice. I guess that'll keep him going again. Meanwhile more uneaten Wainwrights will go in the bin tomorrow.

Well Buggerlugs may have finally settled on somthing.

Morrison's own brand dog food. It comes in metal containers like Ceasar and for the last week he's been munching through them. I got up this morning and he followed me into the utility room and started batting away at his cupboard where the dog food is kept.

Touch wood, he's turning into a dog with normal eating habits.

Pity he's picked a poor product to enjoy (dogs eh?!) and chomp on hehe still as long as he seems to do well on it then it reduces stress for you!!
