So over the past 5days our yorkie/dachshund cross has decided to be scared going to bed. He has slept in the kitchen for 7months with no problem at all, getting on his bed when told and sleeping alot better than our other pup. He now runs straight to the kitchen door and we cannot get him to stay on his bed, we have to close the door on him to keep him in there. He was shaking as if he was scared but we cannot think why he would be?

My girlfriend said this started on sunday night when i wasnt there when he went to bed as i was out on the piss all night. Could be that i suppose, he does follow me around everywhere.

Any suggestions?

Something has freaked him out whilst shut in the kitchen and he couldn't get away from at the time, most likely reason. Could be anything from boiler making noises (maybe it's kicking in at a different time of day) electrical items making more noise than they used to, even something random such as a bird flying into a window.

One owner had a GSD suddenly start getting stressed in the lounge, turned out they'd put a new pump on the fish tank which made a different sound to the old one.

He is also at the right age to be aware of changes etc and for them to stick.

I was going to say maybe it was the noise you made coming back from your night out but realised the problem started before then smile

Nothing banging or clattering about on a night time? My five year old bh went through a similar phase shortly after we moved house. Turned out a woodern board in the loft was banging in the wind and scaring her. Moved that so it didn't bang and she's settled back down.

Interesting, I'd rack your brain for anything that might have changed. I take it he's otherwise well, no changes in eating, drinking, urinating or defecating or anything else that's changed? Not getting bullied by the other dog?
If he is a little stressy, a DAP collar or plug in often works wonders (sometimes does bugger all though).

To be honest i have been thinking it could be the other dog but we have a puppy cam and they either sleep or potter around the kitchen when were out. At any other time they get along great with the girl telling him off sometimes. Its abit of a mystery!

Any sign of bites etc when it started?

We took our Staffy camping a few years ago & a sheep tick got into the caravan & bit her when she sat on the floor. Ever since she's acted scared of the floor in there & jumps straight on the sofa/bed.

No sign of bites or itchyness as i said he sleeps fine in it during the day. i think it might be that i wasnt in the house all night and for every night since he came home to us i have been the one whos closed the door on him.. I've just been out and treated him to a new ball and a chew treat which hes digging into now.

I cant help but worry cos hes a funny little bugger..
