potential for rehoming a cat but have a dog already
Discussion
OK, not made up but here goes....
We have the opportunity to take on my wife's colleagues 3 yrs old male cat. very healthy although he's deaf. he thinks he's a dog and has a harness and lead so he doesn't run into the road etc.
we also have a bonkers rottie cross (see the dogs picture thred) who is a complete knobhead. he chases dust ( i kid you not - when teh sunlight shines through the small door windows he runs after the glittering dust particles).
he loves to play with other dogs but he can seem aggresive cos he has a loud bark and has selective hearing - he's terrified of his own shadow and of our other pet a gorgeous Royal Python (Sidney).
any thoughts? I don't want to stress either of them out but the lady can't look after Polo (I know, I'll rename him Ceefer if I get my way)...it feels like a good opportunity as we love ACG&S....
We've explored techniques and it looks like the treating method for good behaviour and a gradual introduction over a number of days etc...
thanks in advance and I'll post some pics if successful....

We have two rescue cats & two dogs. One of the dogs is fine, he's a spaniel that has zero interest in cats & will play statues if they get too close to him!
The other dog is a Westie, Westies love nothing better than chasing cats. The oldest cat has much fun fighting the Westie, the younger cat who is nearly as big as the dog, ain't having any of it.
The cats eat & sleep above floor level, they can jump onto furniture & go through the cat flap - the dog can't.
I'm sure the younger cat would settle faster (re-homed about 6mths ago) if the Westie wasn't there but they're getting there, they even shared the same sofa with my OH the other night
As long as you don't think your dog will physically harm the cat it's worth a go surely? Is the cat used to dogs?

I've heard of worse pairings that have actually worked out quite well.
Its not a vague question of "could I try a dog like... with maybe a cat who could be...". Its a very specific thing of a named dog and a named cat. Why not try letting them meet (obviously with careful supervision) and take it from there?
