Sea World PR backfires
Discussion
Do they not do conservation work though?
When I've spoken to staff at them they appear passionate about the animals, doing research and doing their best for the wellbeing of the species. For example the local Sealife Centre in Great Yarmouth has a relatively large set-up for abandoned pups and surely the money to make this happen comes from the parks and centres themselves?
I know all parks are not run equally but every one I've been to have come across in this way.
Dave!

Totally different. They don't have the animals for purely entertainment purposed, watch Blackfish, you'll get the reason for the hate from that. As I said there are worse places, read up on the story of Tom And Misha who Born Free rescued to see how many have to live. When I've spoken to staff at them they appear passionate about the animals, doing research and doing their best for the wellbeing of the species. Conservation does not mean capturing wild whales and dolphins, keeping them in tiny tanks, breeding them to bring more in to entertain. True conservation works on re release programs, sanctuaries in their natural environments etc. (hence why I don't always believe zoos when talking conservation!)
Im all for conservation and using patrons viewing the animals to help fund the continuation of trouble and dangered species but a lot of zoos are just exploitative prisons and should be prosecuted and closed, im glad sea world is feeling the heat.
Last time I went to the zoo it really upset me

What SeaWorld inflicts on Orca killer whales is truly criminal. Orcas are too huge, too intelligent and too sentient to be enclosed in concrete. Cruel, inhumane and outdated. The days of the performing whale circus are numbered. Below is a photo of a SeaWorld employee masturbating an Orca at SeaWorld to impregnate the females Orcas to keep their sick twisted money making show going. Also is a photo of my billboard which I paid for which is on Interstate 75 just before the exit for the Orlando Turnpike, Florida.
Sadly mexico is going the same way, more and more hotels and parks are getting dolphins. Its sucks really when they are just off the coast to view. It was amazing to view them in the wild and the thought of them 30miles away in captivity saddened me. Mind you the drive to see them was horrendous.

Thank you ParakitaMol. Most Brits 'get it' as we have evolved here and understand it is cruel. Some of my cars with added graphics that I take to the protests at SeaWorld, Orlando.
Shoebag - are you aware of OPS and/or Jim Clark? Also Florida based and I imagine you are working along similar lines.Yes LimaDelta I have been in contact with OPS (Oceanic Preservation Society) and Louie Psihoyos the director of 'The Cove'. If everyone watched that movie they would know about the killing cove at Taiji, Japan and how the dolphins are captured for peoples holiday 'swim with' programs.
I also follow Ric O'Barry and the Orca Network. There are alot of groups on FB - Blackfish Brigade, Oceans of Freedom and Captive Cetaceans Tragically Sad.

Erm no need to lecture me as a born free member for 14yrs who has adopted rescued animals by them.
I said don't always believe zoo's because there are a tiny handful that are trying to make a difference and have re released, though rare I know so it is wrong to say ALL.

I was actually responding to a number of points and drifted from a reply to a whole load of other stuff.
I am leaving this thread.
Bye.

You quoted a sentence of mine and then proceeded to write a mass of info and links on that quote and you wonder why I responded as such. I didn't even know it was you who'd written it, my phone screen is small and I responded only to the reply, not who'd written that reply. It was no way an attack at you, I'm sorry you feel that. I'm not sure how I am now not an ally due to this one response tbh?
Not sure why you also deleted your opening post though, makes this thread look a bit weird now!
I have watched the Black Fish documentary and we went to Seaworld in December last year with some friends who have never been. We thought it would be much quieter because of the Black Fish documentary. Sadly it continues to thrive.
As long as people keep visiting the park in their thousands, then people can make as many TV docs and online petitions and it will make no difference.
As far as I could tell Black Fish only came about because of the trainer being killed during a live show. Orcas have been kept in tiny tanks years before that. I almost feel that Black Fish arrived 10-15 years too late to make any real difference.
