Hi folks,

Tia, our 3 year old German Shepherd is walked daily by a dog walker throughout the week. We are very lucky in that Tia is kept out for much longer than the hour per day that we pay for. A few weeks ago I came home to find she had urinated in the hall (thank God for tiles!) and today, my wife came home to find more of the same. On each occasion Tia was only home for 2.5 hours before one of us returned. The urine is completely clear and there seems to be quite a bit. From looking at her bowl, it doesn't appear that she has been drinking massive amounts.

I'm thinking one of two things; does she have some sort of chill/infection? (although wouldn't this result in her urinating unexpectedly at other times?) or perhaps she just isn't doing the toilet towards the end of her walk (she will urinate on command but doesn't usually need to be told). Any thoughts on this? It's very unusual for her to do this.

Thanks,

Martin

Vet check would be my first suggestion. It could be behavioural or a slip in training, but it might be a UTI for instance.

Yep, we always advise ck first, collect fresh sample if poss. If all ok and nothing else detected then start the retraining route.

Occasionally a one off episode of upset can result in repeated negative behaviour so it is worth seeing if this has been a possibility.

I walk some Labs and they haven't being weeing on their walks as much as usual - perhaps it's because it's cold.

I've a recollection of when I was last on a skiing holiday and though I can't remember if it was because it was too warm or too cold - the weather did make a significant difference on how much and how often I wee'd.

It being very cold at the moment - I'm guessing it was because it was too cold to go outside.

Could have a UTI. Cranberry juice (IIRC) may assist.
