Enjoying this, an accurate documentary on how difficult having a puppy is. It is making me very broody!

Really liked the puppy trainer that saw Ralph. Had exactly the right attitude that they decided on the breed because of the energy so they will have to put the work in.

Some of the owners were awful! Have they purposely picked some who seem to have no idea what they are doing in getting a puppy?

That's what I thought.

I think everything our dogs do, even (especially) the things we don't want, is the result of us either deliberately or inadvertently training them to do (or not training them not to do). That seemed apparent through out the programme.

That Weim is going to be a star (with a bit of luck) but it's going to test their metal a lot more first.

Er. Television. It wouldn't be a program without some artificial, heightened drama.

This.^^^^^^^^^^^^

But poor Byron was blamed for going into "attack" mode when he was just playing and nipping. Where were his toys?

The blonde with permanent gym kit on was so stupid buying a pup to teach her kids about "life cycles and death". Assuming the dog lasts for 12 years, her kids would be 20 and 18 before it died. Why not buy a goldfish or guinea pig?
The vizsla owner just let her kid lie In bed playing computer games instead of insisting he actually got out, just saying "that's cool" when the boy played a game. Why bring another dog into that household? The boy seemed incredibly lazy and what kind of parents allow a kid to have a tv in their rooms at that age?!
The gay guys had no ability to assert authority.
The only ones I thought did well were the rottie x owners who carried their dog when it was scared, the disabled girl and the young farmer.

Agee with Byron and Ralph, owners were rubbish. Hope the farmer's dad helps him. I can see him getting frustrated and taking it out on the mutt.

A perfect example of why some people should not own dogs let alone kids. WTF was going on with the kid who didnt even get out of bed or release his grip of the x-box controller on the first day "his" new puppy arrived ? Great parenting skills there.

Don't worry the Weim will work it out. Sooner or later it'll destroy the Xbox!

Would it make good TV otherwise?

True, but I also suspect it's also a very common situation with first time dog owners. I doubt they had to do much research to get the right mix for the show.

I have a goldfish who is at least 18 years old wink

You forgot about her wanting a pup to teach her kids to be 'less selfish'. Wonder where they learnt that from?!?

I was only impressed with the rottie/mastiff owners. Interesting that they were the only owners who adopted from rescue rather than buying from a breeder. I didn't like the rough handling of the collie pup at all - since when is pulling it up by the neck with a piece of bailer twine the way to teach a pup to sit? Use the proper technique and a collie will learn 'sit' in minutes.

I think you're right moorx, but am hoping that the sheepdog trainer father will teach the famer's boy better.
That blonde woman really makes me cross though; what an idiot

they say owners look like their dogs, the awful woman that owns poor Byron has a face like a bulldog licking the ps off a stinging nettle most of the time, so she has the wrong breed!. She's probably not happy he's still alive and the "life cycle" lesson is dragging on.

loved the meeting of the two brothers that was really sweet and they will be sensible owners as for the rest are people so thick.
Lola is doing a great job though she is a credit to her owner well done both of them.
Jess and his owner make me laugh but what a great life for a dog.
So 3 good owners 2 not so good and one who is waiting for death to come along as a relief

"better than a hamster but i dont love him" was the general gist. I think the only one she loves is herself.

Good boy Byron for being sick in the Mini! Good boy!
