Hi ACG&S, first post in here!

We have a young girl here that we can't seem to rid of fleas. She doesn't go out though we have a medium haired male who is a bit of an explorer so he's probably the cause. We've started with Johnson's flea shampoo, gone through the readily available flea sprays/drops/collars, to the prescription Frontline products, we've blootered our flat with various sprays, hoover regularly but when we comb the wee cat we're still finding the little sts. Curiously when we do the big cat we never seem to find any. I've read a few things where people have had trouble getting rid too. Maybe a new breed of super-flea?

We're starting to get to our wits end with the little things. Any suggestions as to what we can do?

I'm I I'm Go to vets get advocate spot on and I'd recommend Vet key Acclaim (can get online) for the house

No pet shop sprays/ drops are good enough once infestations occurred. Treat both cats and treat them every month

Spray whole house even rooms cats don't go into. Spray all nooks and crannies under furniture, the furniture, rugs, curtains, even laminate flooring
. Airing cupboard. I've sprayed the mattress of my bed in the past even though not advised. Hot wash All pet bedding at same time.

Vacuum daily/ twice daily thoroughly. Vibration from vacuum encourages fleas to hatch and vacuum removes food supply for flea larvae.

Put heating on full to increase speed of fleas maturing so spray kills them quicker.

Even with all this you will see fleas for upto 3 weeks after spraying but then it should lessen

Flea infestations are a bds to getunder control but the above should make a big difference
Being absolutely thorough is key but no good without the right products.

Hope the above helps!

Don't use shampoo once put on new drops. Shampoo is not an effective flea to tbh. The house is the place to concentrate on
95% of the fleas lifecycle is spent in the home not on the animal at all.

And finally...Welcome to the all creatures forum wavey

indorex spray the furniture and all carpets in every room
give the cat a capstar tablet which kills all the live ones immediately
then start stronghold two weeks later.
Finally, hoover, hoover ,wash everything, hoover, hoover , hoover.

I think you get the point.

The capstar kills live fleas, the indorex and hoovering gets rid of the eggs and then the stronghold after two weeks will stop them coming back in.

It takes threee weeks to sort but if you follow the above it works, I am proof.

Yep capstar is a good one off to clear the animal. Indorex is a good spray just stinks a lot more than vet key! Stronghold also a good option if vets don't stock advocate.

There are reports of fleas becoming immune to Frontline. Get the proper stuff from your vet and use it monthly

As others have said you need Advocate or Advantage spot on - Frontline seems to be having a bad time at the moment. And don't forget to treat both cats.

Matt.

dont bother with stuff from pet shops/supermarkets and steer clear of ANYTHING Bob Martin (can be fatal to cats) my 2 housecats got fleas a couple of months ago, trip to the vets and got given comfortis tablets, that teamed with a thorough cleaning of everything in the house and regular combing with a flea comb has gotten rid of the blighters!
