It all started off with our Golden Retriever, Molly. We got her back in 2004 when she was 18 months from a rescue centre, her previous owners left her all on her own all day, she was hardly ever walked and when she was it just around the block on her lead. No life at all. I remember first seeing her, she come belting out of the house where she was staying and came running up to us as though she knew she had a new family.

Two years ago we were at Whitstable and she was running about on the beach, swimming, chucking herself on the floor and rolling about like Retrievers normally do. We got home later that night and she bought up some bile and we just thought that she had just eaten something she shouldn't have. She didn't move all night, and the next day she was still the same, she couldn't even stand up frown. About mid afternoon that day me and my dad took her to the vets to see what was wrong with and it was apparent that it wasn't good news, she was dehydrated, the whites of her eyes turned yellow as did her gums. The vet took her out the back and told us they were going to do some tests on her to see what's wrong, and we were told to just go home, try and relax and they'll be in touch.

As soon as we got though the door the vet rang and told us that Molly had just passed away, and there was literally nothing they could do. It was such a shock, possibly the biggest one in my life, as she was our third Retriever and the other two had lived until they were 17. Molly was only 10 and it just seemed unfair that her life had been cut short.

This is Molly in the snow, she loved it!

Three days went by after Molly went and the house just seemed empty, there was no dog to greet you with a toy or a sock when you come through the street door or anything. It just didn't feel like home without Molly. So on the internet I go, looking for Golden Retrievers who need a home and I found a breeder in Barking who claimed they had eight puppies for homes. I called them up and they told they only have two left, a boy and girl, the runt of the litter. We went to the breeders the day I phoned saw the two which were left, and all I need is that we wouldn't have been able to leave without one. We decided to take the girl.

The first day at her new home at 14 weeks old. We had to come up with a name and none of us could really think of one that suited her, until a friend of mine came over to see her and said "oh what a honey she is" and from then on the name has just stuck. It suits her really well, as she really a Honey smile

First experience with water and yes, she went in eek.

Jumping forward now to when she was five months.

With her mate, Crew.

Here she is at eight months, with Candy and Harley. You can really see how much bigger she has got here smile.

As you can see she loves the mud, water, and dirt. 11 months old here.

She was spaded earlier on in the year, you have to be cruel to be kind frown. She was quite upset for a few days but certainly come around when a load of new toys arrived for her (spoilt) smile.

August this year. It may sound biased, but she is the most beautiful dog I have ever seen and she is the only dog we've ever had where everywhere we go people stop us and say how beautiful she is smile.

climbing Snowdon in late October, it was extremely windy and cold and we all made it to the top smile.

This picture really brings the colour of her coat, she's beautiful. She is the perfect size now as well, not too big and not too small.

So there you have it, some of Honey's story so far. I've never had such a strong bond with a dog in all of my life, she's so unique and special it's unbelievable. Playful, affectionate, great with people and all other animals and above all she makes us all smile and laugh. I still think about Molly, everyday, and all of the fantastic memories I have with her - she'll certainly never be forgotten.

I look forward to posting more of Honey's story in the coming months smile
