How will he get back out without killing the snake?

Filmmaker Paul Rosolie to film being eaten by an anaconda for wildlife documentary

Naturalist Paul Rosolie has agreed to be eaten by a snake, for the sake of a wildlife documentary he is making.

There are not many people who can say they have been inside the belly of a giant snake.

Equally, there aren't many who have wanted to go there.
Paul Rosolie will be eaten by an anaconda for a wildlife documentary.

So it's a good thing that naturalist and wildlife filmmaker, Paul Rosolie, 26, has decided that being eaten by an anaconda – one of the largest snakes in the world – is something he is willing to do.

Donning a custom-built, snake-proof suit, Rosolie promises to enter the belly of an anaconda, film it, and release his experience in the form of a nature documentary on the Discovery Channel, called Eaten Alive, on December 7.

I read somewhere that his suit has a "tail" so he can be pulled out. If as I understand it the snake's teeth point backwards I don't know how he'll be able to be pulled out. If his suit is "snake proof" as in the teeth won't grip then how will the snake swallow him?

I think snake proof means that he won't be scarred/dissolved/digested by the snake's gastric juices.

Saw something once when I bloke woke up with his leg fully down a snake's gob and his skin was a mess after he had been extracted.

NB. I could be confusing this with a picture of someone's leg after it had been got at by a Box Jellyfish.

Disgusting stunt.

Which is appropriate rhyming slang for anyone involved in yet another exploitative real life documentary for the hard to impress.

I really hope not frownmad

As much as I dislike snakes killing one for TV is needless and I'm not sure if Discovery would be associated with that as there would be uproar.

I'm sure Penn and Teller used to perform a snake cutting trick, where they'd sneak two snakes on stage, wrap one around their hands then cut it in half. The snake was very much cut in half, but the 'trick' was that there was a spare kicking about, brought into view through sleight of hand.

Now, forgive me for being overly sensitive, but whichever way you look at it; one snake gets cut in half. I don't care if you've just magically produced a second from nowhere - you've just killed an animal in the name of entertainment.

Of course, my indignation would quickly evaporate should someone explain that no snake was halved during the trick. But it looked real enough to me.

  • Yeah so I just watched it again and it looks easy enough to fake, but there's still snake coloured flesh being cut?!?! I dunno.

I've seen Penn and Teller a couple of times in Vegas, and each time a trick has gone wrong and they cut a woman in half eek blood and guts everywhere.

Now, forgive me for being overly sensitive, but whichever way you look at it; one lady gets cut in half. I don't care if you've just magically produced a second from nowhere - you've just killed a woman in the name of entertainment.

or maybe it was all a trick?

I don't see how it's possible, he'll certainly be crushed, how is his suit going to stop that, plus a man is too wide to fit, the suit will add bulk, snakes can detect heartbeats so they don't swallow live prey, lastly if he gets inside, the snake will have to be killed to get him out. All in all it smells of bullst to me. Snakes (even anacondas) are not that big round in the body to fit an adult, they're certainly long but not big around.

Sure I saw some sort of documentary where they asked could a snake swallow a man. They always eat their prey head first and expand their jaws slowly as the prey is tapered towards the thickest bit. We aren't tapered and they'd get stuck at our rather square shoulders. Add he'd have to survive being constricted... it's about as likely as making a 747 disappear.
