Our beloved cat Pepsi (3 years old) has been missing since Friday. We've contacted the local vets and delivered leaflets around the local streets.

My children and his sister Poppy are beside themselves and as you can imagine it's difficult being positive.

Can anyone give any advice or something positive.

Thanks

Our cat Ollie disappeared this year too. Lads tend to go for a wander and get themselves into situations. All I can offer is they are either scoffing at a new mates house or they have been injured and have gone to ground. Sucks either way.

I can give something positive.

http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f...

This was only last week, she was gone for just over a week but is fine now, if still a little thin.

Check with all neighbours to ask them to check garages and outbuildings. Check hidy-holes as if they are scared, their natural reaction is to hide and won't answer to even voices they know, it's essential to physically check places.

Good luck, I know how bad it is but it's perfectly natural to just go on a bit of a bender or get locked in an outbuilding.

Hope you find him.

If you've not found her when walking around, consider it a good sign. My cat Neko went missing for four days shortly after her brother was run down.

I was beside myself then one morning at 2am I was awoken with a claw on my nose and there she was, thin, scraggly and very vocal and hungry. smile

Don't give up hope, keep going out and calling for her and leaflet drop as much as you can.

Sorry to hear that. I know from experience how horrible that can be.
Two positive stories to cheer you up slightly.
My sister cancelled a holiday when hers went missing. 10 days later it turned up out of the blue. It turns our that it had gotten into the house next door which was empty and got locked in. Survived with no food and minimal water until tehy next visited the house.
One of our own cats went missing for 5 days and it was a very homey cat. Also a very curious cat and was almost certainly locked in someones garage or shed for that time.
The only bad things that tend to happen to cats is on the road, and if you've searched locally and noone has seen it then there is a reasonable chance it is locked in a shed somewhere. Good luck

Thanks guys.

My wife has just called me after reading the 'Cat Gone' thread. The days leading up to Pepsi not returning he was sleeping a lot, so he could have been planning this for a while (The scoundrel). We will keep our fingers crossed.

My erstwhile cat (died of old age a couple of years ago) once buggered off for nine months.

Thought all the worst thoughts, and then one day she was on the flat roof yowling to be fed, as if she'd never been away.

That is extraordinary. I dont suppose you ever found out where he had been?

There was a bit on Radio 5 on Friday I think about a cat that was gone for 6 years! Apparently he'd been living in a nearby Garden centre, and the staff in the pet store fed him!

No, we never did find out. I suspect she'd gone off, found a friendly old lady who fed her posh cat food but then died, and then when she'd eaten the corpse, returned home.

She certainly wasn't skinny on her return...

He's either a) gone off for a lads holiday in search of tottie, or b) Has adopted another owner who feeds better grub. If its a) he'll be back when he's done. If its b) Keep a close eye on neighbours window sills, gardens etc and be prepared for a door-step battle.

Hope its either of the above and you get him back safely.

Go out late & early to call for him, the sound travels further & you'll be able to hear him call back to you

No news really is good news, especially if they are chipped

Exactly the same thing happened to my friend's cat. Snoopy went missing for about 2 weeks and it turned out he had got in to the neighbour's house as they were locking up to go away on holiday

Our cat Peg went missing for a day and it turned out she was locked in a neighbour's downstairs loo lol

Fingers crossed its something like this and he turns up soon smile

As we used to live in a flat we had two indoor cats. One summer night we accidentally left a window a little too open and one of them left. They had never been out before so we feared the worst. We were a short distance from the towns bypass so after walking everywhere calling the cat close to home we drove up the bypass. To our horror we found a cat that hadn't made it across the road. We picked it up and as it was in a very bad way but was mostly the same colour as ours we took it to a friends house who had a garden to bury him. Ceremony duly performed and move forward almost an entire year. We heard a kerfuffle in the bedroom and the replacement cat was sat on the window sill but outside the window. We rushed round to the front of the flat (ours was first floor) and he had gone. We found him shouting hidden behind a bin nearby. While we were looking for him we had left the shared hallway door open. Who was at the top of the stairs but the cat we thought we had buried a year ago. There was no question it was him. We moved house a week later and he came with us. I feel terrible for whoever it was whose cat we buried as they will never know what happened and it would never have come home but at least we gave it a nice send off.

We must attract random cat stories....

The last weekend of November I was organising an event at a local sportsclub I am a member of and when we arrived first thing in the morning there was a cat hanging around. This is odd as this place is a long way from anywhere and this cat was wearing a pink collar so was obviously a pet. It was very thin and at the end of the weekend my wife convinced me she was going to take it home and find the owner. To say I was sceptical wouldn't be too far from the truth. So my wife took the cat to our vets to be scanned and it was found to have no microchip. Hmm, even less likely I thought. But still, a few days later one of the other vet practices she had rung called back saying they had a possible match. So they forwarded our details to the cats owner and hey presto it was the same cat. We could tell by the collar and weird facial markings. I thought that was a result. The cat had been missing since early September. So we arranged for the owner to come and get her. The owner came but she hadn't come to take her home. Claimed things in her life had changed since the cat had gone missing and enquired if we could look after the cat until she sorted a few things out.

This was two weeks ago and on Sunday we had a text saying she thinks the cat would be better living with us as she can't provide everything it needs right now. Now we didn't set out to rehome this cat, only to find the owner. We found her and are now seemingly stuck with the cat. The vets only gave us the owners mobile number, we don't know where she lives so can't just take the cat to her house.

Bit stuck now as not sure what to do. We live in a small house and already have our own cats and two dogs so while it would be easy enough for us to keep her, we have enough going on looking after our own pets. I am of the belief that if you take on a pet it is a life commitment, but if what the owner says is true I can also understand she may not be able to provide for everything the cat needs.

So we have a dilemma. Not sure what to do with this cat now. Any thoughts? What would you do?

Apologies for the thread jack, just wanted to point out our own cat came back of his own accord after a year, and that we found and almost reunited someone else with their cat after almost three months. It had travelled at least 8 miles as the crow flies and crossed a busy road (dual carriageway/motorway depending where it crossed). So they can turn up further and later than you might expect.

@ chrisga you aren't totally stuck with her, a rescue centre would rehome her for you if you feel you have enough on your plate with your own pets. Personally, being a believer in fate, I'd keep her. smile I'd also be far too attached having had her for a couple of weeks, but I am a total softy with animals.

We found a cat who was also miles from home, skin and bones and frustrating microchipped but it didn't work. Happily he was reunited with his owners by the CPL but we already had plans in place to keep him if the owner didn't turn up.

Funnily enough, my missus took a walk the other day and bumped into an American woman ringing a bell in the middle of the road lol

My missus: wtf....American: 'I'm trying to call my cat in; we've just moved here and he's lost....he has a tel number on his collar, big and ginger'

A big and ginger 'new' cat in our garden today...with no collar on. I don't doubt this situation will become difficult in the near future smile

Latest news......

Whilst handing out lost leaflets last night a lady approached my wife and said that she has just moved into the area and for the past few nights at around 7pm a cat that looks like Pepsi has been hanging around the front of her house, she assumed it was next doors cat. We went there last night at 7pm calling Pepsi but no sign.

We will keep trying.

My son is distraught as he is missing his buddy frown which is heart breaking
