thought id ask for some advice about our cat she keeps being sick frown she up-chucked twice this morning and has done it about 4-5 times in last 6 months. im sure its nothing to worry about really but thought id ask anyway.

it to me seems she is rushing her food as it always seems to be after she comes in she runs to her food eats then 10 minutes later we hear hack and there is a lovely pile of kibble mush on the floor she looks sheepish for a few mins then rolls around wanting attention.

do you think its anything to worry about ? is there anyway we can prevent it ?

cheers

Maybe feed her less in quantity, but more often?

The monster in laws cat will do that. Eats too fast and can't keep hold of it, a minute later you find a pile of cat porridge in the hall way.

Try feeding it in smaller amounts. Wait for it to eat it's 1st dinner and have a fuss before putting the 2nd down. Is my suggestion.

Lots of cats do this. Commonly due to eating food too quickly.

My own cat is prone to this (she was doing it a couple times a wk until we changed her dry food)

As long as your cat is otherwise bright, lively, of good weight, good coat, still wants to eat, normal toilet etc then there is prob little too worry about.

Feeding little and often can help reduce it. Any chance of furballs?

When is she due her booster, always good to use this appt to ask the vet about this sort of thing, esp if she is an older cat so routine checks can be done just to be sure.

she is about 6 great coat and very good in her self he behaviour hasnt changed ever and is still crapping like a good-un she is wormed regularly.

i think it must be down to eating too fast. she is on hills science plan she has been since the day we got her and was fed on them in the cattery when we got her about 5 years ago. she self regulates her food intake this morning she went out at 3am back in at 6:30 ish then it happened about 6:45. it used to happen when she had been out all day went out at about 7 back in at 6pm so she hadnt eaten all day well bar what ever she managed to catch her self. now she doesnt go out during the day really but goes out very early doors then back in before we go to work. id preffer it if she did go out during the day but she tends to only do it now if its not windy or raining or we are in for the day. we just fill her bowl up and she eats what and when she likes (when she is in) she has always maintained the same weight so it seems to work for her.

Yes does sound like it's just due to eating a bit quick on occasion. I'd be surprised if there was any other reason so don't worry unless increases in frequency.

Our ragdoll went through a phase of doing this, the vet was pretty sure it was down to a furball which trigged her gag reflex sometimes when full but caused no other problems. We got her a much better quality dry food (Proplan) with HairBall control and started giving her some paste on her paws (Katalax)? Seemed to sort her out in a couple of weeks tops. Too late to save the stair carpet though!! frown

I have had this problem with my stray GSD dog i took in a couple of months ago.
Don't know his history ,but he is thin .Eats as if there is no tomorrow.
Then last week starting to bring up half digested food..At the other end it turned into reddish brown water after a fashion.
Food wasn't getting through just fluid.
Only yesterday he is back to normal ..Ravenous!

In this instance i remember he gobbled some field mushrooms i was picking over the farm. Any indication of food and he is in there...Slam!!
Maybe your cat has eaten out for lunch somewhere.

Don't want to sound morbid ,but there are some sick people around..Like putting anti-freeze in footpath puddles and leaving mouse poison in a easy access situation.

If his cat was acting poorly I'd agree but also the history he gave shows this is an occasional problem going over several months.

Your gsd however is of concern. What has your vet said. Has he put on weight since you took him on.

Gsd are prone to conditions affecting their weight inc pancreatic insufficiency. He may need some investigating (I realise you may have already done this however!)

Trying not go off the guys cat thread but before he was handed over he did have the trots now and then in his term in the dog pound (2 months).

This may be related to the cat trouble as well because neighbours are having the same trouble as me (dogs).

The district council(Blaby DC Leics) took him in from the dreaded RSPCA. He weighed some 25 kgs..He is now up to 29 kgs-about 5 kgs underwieght i guess still.

They are fab to dumped dogs ..Even sent him through a medical at their vets.
He has had a blood test and was cleared. They said he has a sore hip ,but you would not guess it they way he is so active at an estimated 12 years old(??)

I have another shep .She is a rehome at around 4 years old..No trouble with her at all. It cannot be a bug as they intermix food bowls a lot.
I will however go for more substantial tests if he keeps on taking the shovel loads of food i put down for him in several intervals without further weight gain...One has to be careful with sheps over feeding as they are so active.Bloat could incurr if exercised within 2 hours of feeding.

As you advise i think it would be best for the O.P to visit the vets as the cat maybe the victim of a sicko in the outside world.
My only cat/kitten i have owned was poisoned by a neighbour back in the late 1970's by leaving mouse bait in their shed uncovered..I'll never have another animal i cannot supervise

Awful question, but does she go toilet often enough? (And does she get furball remedy?).

Sometimes a change of diet is all that's required to solve a vomiting cat when there is no underlying pathology, so if all seems healthy, I would say try a different food type. HTH

I'd back up the eating too quickly thing. We had an ex rescue who was kept with other cats for a long time period, so they either ate quickly or lost out. If we give her breakfast in one go, she will vomit it back up (yuk).

We give her half at a time and she's fine.

Stop lining the area she sleeps with the News of the World. She's taking 1 look at Kerry Katona, and getting so enraged she's phisically sick. HTH
