Can anyone recommend a Cattery in the Bournemouth/New Forest Area for Christmas. We used an RCPCA recommended one near where we live in west London last year and the cats came back traumatised. So this year we would like to find somewhere close to my in laws so that we can pop in to see our furry friends whilst we are down there.

It needs to be indoors and heated.

Many thanks

(ps price is not an issue)

Sorry chap, no idea; but you at least deserve a reply type

I would personally never put my cat in a cattery for any length of time, as I know the upheaval would drive him nuts - traumatise him, in your words.

I went away for 2 weeks recently and the cat was fed and watered at my house by a friend who lives in the next street. Although I was away, he had all his familiar locations, smells and sounds, and a Sureflap to let him come and go and keep intruders out. When I got home he was, far from being traumatised, relieved and happy to see me, and wouldn't leave me alone for 3 days (and he's normally quite aloof). Cats don't like change, so keeping him in familiar surroundings with the same diet avoided stressing him unnecessarily.

Doesn't answer your question I know, but can your cats not be looked after at home by friends or neighbours?

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunatly leaving the cats at my house is not an option as I don't have a cat flap or anyone who can feed them.

I will keep searching for a suitable cattery.

Do you have any neighbours with cats. Word of mouth usually fairly reliable. Look up a few catteries and visit them. Ask them what they do re diets, if a vet is needed. Try and avoid catteries attached to kennels. Vets generally don't recommend but they often be aware of ones that clients like. Would you consider a cat sitter?

Meant to say the size of the individual housing is not as important as the cleanliness and type of housing (eg sneeze barriers between cages)

I live in the New Forest so should be able to help. Question is, where abouts are you going to be?

Ah, possibly a bit too far for you then. I live over near hythe, and there is a place called Harwins iirc which has a very good reputation. I'd steer clear of applemore kennels tho.
