Had our girl spayed :(

Yesterday we had our 7 month old Rottweiler spayed. My girlfriend is at home with her today but says she will not stop crying. She has given her the painkillers as provided by the vet, but she just will not stop crying!

My girlfriend keeps phoning me and as I am at work, I can't go to check on them yet. Is it normal for a dog to just cry constantly after such an op? The vet seemed to think it would stop once painkillers were given?

Please set my mind at ease someone!

Maybe phone the vets and ask if the painkillers need to be upped?

When our husky got spayed, she was on painkillers and after she woke up thought she was invincible until suddenly it started hurting, and gave a few yelps. Soon stopped and rested.

It should just be abit painful for the first 24hours for her I'd imagine, shes nit sleeping then, usually abut doozy afterwards.


Saying that, we had a husky puppy in rescue once that after a jab from the vet would scream the building down, I bet the other dogs in the waiting room were scared stless listening to it.

She may actually still be feeling a bit strange from the anaesthetic, whimpering is not always due to the pain, however she is young so her pain threshold is likely to be lower. What pain relief have they prescribed for her?

I think panic may be over from my girlfriend. Our little girl just misses me it would seem!

I went home for lunch and she perked up straight away and my OH said it was the most active she had seen her all day. I had to come back to work though and she started crying before I even got in the car!

During my lunch she didn't make a peep, just sat with the OH and myself having a cuddle. I think she is fine
