For the first six months after we moved into our new place, our delightful little sod blissfully snubbed the two massive fields around the house in favour of wandering inside and curling out a massive cable in the corner of his tray. This, despite having spent the previous four years in the old house sodding off outside to do his business.
The missus recently dug up our flowerbeds, and the Rufus has decided to decorate those instead.
Dried turds in soil VS rooms filled with eye watering fumes. We're grateful for small mercies.

But I don't understand. If your cat can go outside, why have you got a tray inside as well? Do lots of people do this?
For my part it is because I refuse to have a catflap* put in, so when I am out the cats are inside and therefore have no way of going out.- Way to many mice brought in at all hours of the day and night still alive to have one again!

Similar situation here. No flap ATM. So some days the cat is locked in all day.- Way to many mice brought in at all hours of the day and night still alive to have one again!
And I think this morning he had a walk around the garden, then came in and did a big turd, then went out for a fight with an interloper.

Ahhh - I see. Thought I was being a cruel heartless owner then! (My cat would probably still say I am)And I think this morning he had a walk around the garden, then came in and did a big turd, then went out for a fight with an interloper.

Put it this way. If there comes a day when your cat is too afraid/ill/lazy to hop through the flap to the great outdoors, would you prefer it if they had taken the litter tray option or the spray-and-smear-it-around-the-house option?1598 said:
Is it just me who has cats that come in from the garden to use the litter tray and then go back out again!!!
Cats are so funny at times
Nope, both of mine doCats are so funny at times
I can't have a cat flap (nor would I to be honest having lost one to the road outside) so I have to have litter trays for them.
Plus, cleaning a litter tray is a good way to see if they are ill in anyway

so that if they need to "go" during the day when im at work they can, like wise at night, rather them use a tray then wake me up at 2am in the morning.eltawater said:
