Heya.

Thought i'd share a pic of my new GSD pup Ari. He is 8 weeks old, and from a working german line. On both lines there a number of SchH2 and SchH3 dogs.

He'll be trained as a SchH dog as he gets older.

Hiya kelk. SchH is short for Schutzhund. Its a dog sport where a dog is tested tracking, obedience and protection work.

He's a lovely looking little chap.

But why are they breeding them to have such low rear ends? Seen a few at shows recently and they look like there is something wrong with them. What am I missing?

I think it's more a pose of the dog for show purposes, rather than a stance.

They should look like this IMO, but I would say that!

Jasandjules, the rear quarter is more the show pose rather than the angle being bred in. I need to dig out some non-show pics of his dad.

As expected Ari is being a handful, but thats good. He has a very high prey drive, so hes always hanging off my jeans or running around with a jute or tug in his mouth waiting to play. I forgot how much hard work raising a GSD pup was, and its only our 2nd day. In all fairness, my misses has never owned a dog before, and shes been great with him!

Thanks - he was mine, yes. Sadly died in 2009. He was a star, and I miss him and my female GSD every day. It's lovely to see pics of pups just starting out on their (and your!) journey in life.
