Feckless pet owners
Discussion
I always have a gander at gumtree and other similar sites, adverts, pets for sale and the likes of. Pisses me right off at the number of people who suddenly have to move to a house which do not allow pets (cats and dogs being most popular)
WHY do they not find somewhere that allows them to have a pet, or better still why do they not tell the truth or go one better, engage brain and understand that something cute and cuddly actually requires more time and attention than they are prepared to muster..
The amount of cats on gumtree near to me is astonishing, the property business must be booming!
(Quick question does anyone know if a rescue dog is unwanted by the rescuing person/s should they not go back to the rescue centre they came from? What kind of % of centres use this policy?)
Sorry for the rant. I am not a tree hugging animal activist peta member but its annoying to say the least..

I know what you mean and I would certainly not consider a place that did not take animals, not quite the same but when I moved to Nottinghamshire from Aberdeen I was worried about my house rabbit travelling all that way (about 10 hours), but I just made plans and stopped every now and then and checked her etc. there was no way I would have left her behind with anyone!
I guess some peoples animals don't mean what they do to others, part of the family and all that, mine are my kids and wherever I go they go!!

I have some friends who would get and then get rid of pets at the drop of a hat - I could never understand their attitude to animals. When I moved out of the family home a few hundred years ago, I lived with two big dogs in my car for a few days and then a Transit van for a few more until I could find a place that would take me and my "family".
To be honest, those few days were a proper "adventure" but I would NEVER get rid of my dogs. Now happily married with a few kids and a "grand-daughter" who means more to me than (nearly) the rest of the family!
But then I am VERY strange.

The increase in rehoming of cats and dogs due to moving usually correlates with the amount of people losing homes and having to go into rental. Unfortunately many rentals will not accept cats or dogs.
Now I'm not making excuses and many people don't try but it is hard. When we were basically thrown out of our home when I was 11 due to my parents business collapsing, my parents hunted and hunted for a house where we could keep our dog and cat. We ended up in a tiny 2 bed flat with no garden because it was friends of my parents who owned it and they were ok about pets. It was a very damp grim flat with a 50p electric meter but we kept our family together. After a year we were able to rent a run down 3 bed semi which was a huge step up and keep our dog.
So believe me it is not always easy but I agree it is very sad.

Certainly all the proper rescues I have knowledge of have this policy in place. However, there are some bad rescues out there, plus people often confuse what is essentially the council pound with a rescue. There are more and more pets coming in to rescue now Or should I say being requested to come into rescue as many are bursting at the seams and having to turn them away
I would never give up my pets and would find a way round things somehow. I thought many, many years ago that I would have to give up my dogs due to my circumstances. For a few months, things weren't ideal, but then circumstances changed again and everything was OK
