Hi all

I'm just after a bit of advice. My 8 week old puppy had her first vaccinations and a worming tablet today.

First poo after the worming pill, you guessed it, a nice bit of worm! And then the second, and third...

She's just had another poo and there are no worms present but there is some blood present in the poo. Is this something to be concerned about after worming?

I've never had a pet with worms before!

Not a problem. Seen it often. Round worms are perfectly normal in pups.

No doubt BexVN will be along shortly to give a far more expert opinion. She knows her stuff.

HTH.

you're lucky, we bought Murphy from a KC breeder who lived on a farm...

the first poo he did when he go home looked like medusa's head dipped in a bowl of spaghetti!!!
Alive, i tell ya!!!

have a chat with the vet, worming pills can be quite agressive on a pup's delicate tum-tum

Hi Thanks for the confidence Tenex thumbup and as you mentioned roundworms are very common in pups in fact they are nearly all born with roundworms it's just dependant on how they are wormed when young as to whether they will have a problem, ideally they should be wormed at 2 weeks 5 weeks and 8 weeks of age.

Kosta, keep a check on this. Hopefully it's just because pups pooped quite a lot this evening and caused a small bleed in the colon due to some straining, however as mentioned some wormers are quite harsh for a pups tummy, esp if suffering a worm burden and there could be an inflammatory response going on. If not back to normal tomorrow I'd advise a vet check appt in the morning.

Just out of interest do you know the name/ make of wormer given and has the pup had a worming treatment before?

Thankyou all smile

Bex,

The breeder said the pups and mother had been wormed regularly when I asked yesterday.

I'm not 100% sure what wormers she Is on as I'm on a train at the moment. The parents have her today so they are keeping a close eye on her for me.

I'll keep you updated. Many thanks!

Poor Maya has been pooing a lot today by all accounts. However this evening blood has started reappearing frown

I best give the vets a call in the morning

I agree, however don't be afraid to call them before tom if you're worried, they can give advice and not always need to see them. DOn't starve her (she's too young) but if things are becoming loose then some bland food may be worth giving chicken and rice type stuff.

Thanks Bex she's sorted now. All smiles again

Inca is going in tomorrow now. Whilst they've been play fighting I think Maya has caught Inca's eye. It's weeping out green mucus and is going bloodshot. Little tykes!!
