Hello all,

I could do with some advice. My wife and I should be getting our new puppy a Dalmatian in about 6 weeks time now, the puppy is alive and well so thats good.

However we currently have an old vac and so will need a new one because they shed a lot of hair.
Amazon has left me a little confused as to which vacuum to go for. There is the dyson animal, the vax animal, the hoover pet and a meile one also.
The dyson has good reviews but I would rather here it from the experts because a dog owner friend of us said "dont get a dyson" soo =/

Basically this is my plea, can anyone offer me some advice on which vac to get, as it is quite a significant purchase of £200 or more and I want to get one that works.

Thankyou in advance

Dan

Our dogs killed our Dyson. Instead we now buy cheap hoovers that we know will only last a year or so....

My parents have a labrador and a beagle, both shed lots of hair, and they swear by their Vax cylinder type vacuum. Very good for picking up pet hair.

We've used a Bosch upright, Dyson-esque vac for years now, seems to have coped with various house renovations etc... the beater bar gets a bit tangled with cat fluff and Mrs SWH's long blonde hairs... easy enough to sort out; black lab fluff however, gets picked up fine smile

...I've also found that vacuuming the hound directly works quite well, one of the furniture attachments does the trick.

When it goes pop I'll probably go for a Vax of some variety; when selecting this Bosch one I had a load of money off vouchers from work... actually, that's a long time ago, it's done well.... so just went for the fancy cyclone machine with the highest power rating...!

Had a look.... linkage?

Also I forgot to note we need one of those pull alongs as we do not have space for storing an upright!

Miele Cat & Dog is excellent! I had to buy a new vacuum cleaner last year when we had no plans to get a dog, and I went for one of these after reading reviews on PH. hehe It's excellent, really good at getting up dog hair.

Dyson here. Very easy to empty which is important since we do it twice a week. If you've got a TK Maxx near you go to the closing sale and scout around.

Had an old dyson dc07 upright, made a right racket but picked up dog hairs no problem on rugs and carpet. Now have a dc 23 animal drag along non upright one, no problems picking up persian cat hair.

Costs a few quid more but cheaper ones are a false economy IMHO, dyson 5 yr warranty, I rang up and had a replacement wand sent out next day courier gratis! (I broke it so not a case of it fell apart!)
