cat missing and unwell
Discussion
I have a cat, but have had to look after my brothers 11 week old puppy the last week.
The cat is 10 years and since the puppy has turned up has disappeared for nearly a week. I left food out but no sign. The last night of looking after the puppy the cat turned up not looking in good shape. breathy heavily and coat raggy.
she slept in all yesterday and I let her out this morning, but now no sign when i came back from work.
Do cats go off to die?

10 is still young but a week of stress will have taken it's toll. Hopefully he'll be back again and when he does keep him indoors and get him to a vets asap. Kidneys are always the main concern so these should be checked, if they are ok then rest and recuperation is what is needed and make sure he can't in out again.
We took our dogs down to mum and dad's the other weekend.
Their cat (my cat, the handsome devil), is nearly 17, and doesn't stray from the gardens of the house. Ever.
However, he took one look at the dogs on his back lawn, and I didn't see him again for the entire weekend.
Mum rang a couple of days after we'd left, to say that the cat had re-appeared.
Some cats will avoid dogs on their territory like the plague, apparently. Even if it means leaving the territory!
He'll probably come back when he's sure the pup's gone for good... -it took our cat a couple of days to be sure. And if he's not been eating and has been out in the elements for a week, he's bound to look a little... careworn... a vet check up when he does come back wouldn't go amiss, though. Especially given that he's about to approach his elder years.
