Hamster, Wet tail?
Discussion
Evening all,
My girlfriend who has a syrian hamster (18 months old) and it has 'wet tail' for about 12 days now. I am unsure what this is because I've had small animals when I was younger who have had the illness - Wet Tail and it seems different from this.
WET TAIL LIKE reasons:
The hamster is sleeping lots, seems tied when out, eyes dont seem wide open, grumpy, moves slow, eating less, lost a little weight, smelly (very strong hamster wee smell) the tail was very wet all around the back end about 10 days ago, 2 days later a lot less and now is just a small area around the tail (I have cleaned and it returned 24 hours later). It seems to just be urine around her back end.
NON WET TAIL reasons:
She doesn't seem to have pain when you touch her stomach, drinking ok, plays in wheels for short time and ok in ball, doesnt sit hunched, clean bedding, no swelling around bum and it's been almost 2 weeks since 1st spotted.
I have just looked into the cage and can't see any poo, last changed saw dust 1 week ago. (pos. just me not having a close look).
I know small animals have kidney problems? Any ideas?
Thank you so much,
Tom
