Basset/spanial puppy.
Discussion
Mrs Xtriple has decided that after the loss of our old dog (Leo, the best dog in the world) the house is empty and our other dog (Phoebe) is pining for her friend, so the answer is another dog.
I've never known her get the "wants" but she wanted a puppy desperately. After replying to a few adverts for baby dogs (breed is unimportant so long as it's a cross/mongrel) and finding a few that, surprisingly, were outright scams, she talked to a lovely lady whose Spanial cross had been "caught" by their thoroghbred Basset hound. Lovely lady, who's pet had just delivered 11 (yes eleven!) puppies, most of which had already found homes and the last few had prespective owners coming to look at them yesterday.
Anyway, we went to the PH dawn re-fueling at Castle Drogo yesterday and then took Phoebe out for some excercise (she needed it after eating a whole bacon butty and a bit of Lorns as well) we finally got home about lunchtime.
Hadn't been in more than ten minutes when the lovely lady rang and said the prospects had declined to turn up and were we still interested?
We were up to Honiton in about an hour! Never known our lass drive so fast in her life!
Of course we took Phoebe and she freaked a bit when the gate opened and three dogs boinged all over her (she's quite nervous being a rescue herself) and wet herself, but the three dogs were all lovely (they have a Retriever as well) and Thomas (the Basset and doer of dirty deeds) was gorgeous. All the puppies were outside in a lovely pen full of toys and little fat bundles of joy.
All the puppies were healthy, fat, and full of life even at just five weeks old, beautiful big ears (love stroking dogs ears)and we were handed the three puppies still available.
We quickly decided that we wanted another dog, so the little girl was put back into the pen and then we had the most difficult choice in the world, which of these two lovely litte boys to have.
One is black with white feet and the other black with white stripes (sort of) across his back. After playing with them and watching them getting a crafty nosh off Mum, Phoebe sort of chose the Black with white stripes as she seemed less indifferent to him. She wasn't impressed when two little puppies decided to try feeding from her and she quickly told them to "do one!" no nastiness though and she seemed quite interested in them.
Mum and Dad were both smashing natured and in beautiful condition so no hesitation in buying there and then. Wanted to bring the little chap hom,but of course he's too young so Lorns got to wait for 3 weeks.
They were ever so cheap at £150 so plenty to spend on toys and chews which will, hopefully, save the house a bit. Gotta get the lad booked into the vet for his jabs etc and both of us are really excited as neither of us has had a "proper" baby puppy in donkeys years ( Lorn never)and quite looking forward to sleepless nights and wet carpets.

Of course we named him "Leo" but that will probably change as I find that puppies and dogs find their own names.
Just thought I'd share - hope you don't mind?
