Whilst out for a walk along the basingstoke canal last week, the fiance and i were lucky enough to see a kingfisher. To top it off we actually saw it dive and catch a fish! Pretty awesome i reckon!

I've lost count of the number I've seen as a blue blur flashing up the river, but if you got a good look at it diving to catch a fish, you were indeed lucky!

OT (sort of...) but I was out kayak fishing off the Gower in Wales yesterday and had a gannet dive for a fish not 20 feet to the side of my boat. Most impressive! smile

I'd been watching it in the hope that it would show me where the bait fish were; the fact that I was obviously right on top of them goes to show how effective £300-worth of fishfinder/GPS is compared to mother nature!

Years ago a friend and i were fishing for trout in a local beck(sp), as we were hidden in the reeds with the rod sticking out a kingfisher landed on the tip of the rod. We both sat there for a good five minutes before it flew away. Beautiful birds.
