A really difficult decision to make but Mrs Glocko and I have come to the point where we are going to have to let Charlie and Lottie go. We both work full time and they are not getting the excercise they need.
What is the best way to sell them? Can't use eBay and not used Gumtree before.
We also want to be happy that the owners are going to care for them well.
Has anyone sold pets before?

Well, have you spoken to the breeder?

I don't think selling them is the best way to ensure they get a good home though, most people IME offer a pet for free if they need re-homing.

I don't know a breeder.
I would have thought that having a price would weed out potential poor owners who want the dogs for free??

I agree, if people really want the dog they will pay a fee for them, for free will perhaps encourage people to take them on a whim just because they are free...

http://preloved.co.uk is more animal based than gumtree...

you could also try http://www.dogpages.org.uk/

or http://www.pets4homes.co.uk/

a few more googled...

good luck finding them a new home!

^ I'd always go with the shih-tzu rescue organisations first. Just contact them, explain your situation and they'll help you the best way they can and put your dogs needs first, without critising you. They will usually at the first opportunity attempt to understand your reasoning and see if its a simple case of doing something different, etc, training etc, obviously as you've stated its unfortunatly an issue of not having the time to give them what they deserve then they will probably organise to take your dogs and foster them until they can find a forever home.

Btw, what's your routine from getting home at work? Is it worth changing perhaps? I do 11 hours by the time i get home at 5.30pm, and the missus now comes home at 6pm. Both usually knackered. We usually eat straight away, then head off out to walk our husky at the beach or woods for an hour or so. Its usually 8.30pm by then, so it TV for an hour then off to bed and then up at 5.45am again. So I've an idea of what your mean about no time, we barely stop. I used to enjoy my TV time, but im used to the routine now. Admittedly, we have a dogflap installed so Shadow can go into the back garden as she pleases.

Hope all goes well.

Please don't put them on Gumtree or Preloved frown Sadly puppy farmers and people wanting bait dogs trawl these sort of sites.

If you are serious about wanting them to find a good home and this being the most important thing, then a GOOD rescue who will homecheck, match and vet all applicants are the way to go. If you let me know where you are I can put you in touch with a rescue that I know will do a good job. They will also be home foster based rather than kennel based smile

I am sorry but the fact that you mention ebay implies that the dogs are an inconvenience to you. They are not commodities to be bought and sold.

We have a Shih Tzu who is an absolute bugger, but we would never rehome him let alone sell him.

Hope I have misinterpreted you in which case I appologise.

Have you thought about using a dog walker?

This.

Saved my life tbh. My two are always now sleepy and relaxed when I get home instead of wound up tighter than a drum.

If you love the dogs then the expense is justified IMHO.

I mean the breeder you got them from? They should in theory be willing to help either take them or re-home them.

I can't work out what you mean by this comment. It is either
A) you want money for you pets
B) poor people would not be good owners

Option A is certainly the lesser of two evils with regards to my interpretation.

Selling family pets just for money would be disgusting, but I also agree a fee should be paid as if they really want the dogs they will pay a fee for them, I just think advertising them as free could encourage people on a whim who do not really want them to take them for the sake of it, rather than someone looking for the particular breed and willing to pay, and thus afford vet bills etc.

but I would personally go down the shih tzu rehome places, they will not pay for the dogs but will go a bit further into insuring they are homechecked etc as said above...

its also worth asking around family and friends, or advertising in the workplace as you may find someone you know wants them and could keep in contact...

As has been said, get a dog walker/sitter to pop in and sort them during the day.

Job sorted with no heartache smile

Wont they only need a mile a day or something like that? You don't have 15 mins free in the day??

How much exercise do they need? I thought shih tzu's were more or less house dogs?

They don't need much exercise but they are very needy dogs though, loving constant attention. (Maybe that's just our one)

I would imagine having 2 would mitigate that somewhat if it's a trait.

Like humans they all have their own personalities.

Our boy does have a sister, but is still very needy for human affection. His dream job is to work as a meet and greeter.

I do not agree that animals who need rehoming should be sold as such, but having said that if someone is too short of money to pay something towards the acquisiton of a pet, then it would be safe to assume they would struggle to pay bets bills when the animal falls ill.

Vets bills have a habit of adding up to a large sum quite quickly. My last trip to the vets just for a abscess on one of mine cost me £93 on the first appointment/treatment and £25 for the follow up.

There are excellent charities out there to help the less financially fortunate with vets bills (such as the blue cross).

On the other hand you could be wary of more wealthy people who would sell off their pets when they become an inconvenience.
