need some help understanding what our cat is after
she often comes running into where we are at all times of day and night making a sort of chirping/brup noise with her toy cat in her mouth or a pair of socks
the other night she did it with the cat stood there for a minute then ran off and came back doing the same thing with a soft M&M fridge magnet then repeated with a microfibre washmit she then just stares at you i just dont know what she is after at all anyone any ideas

Sounds like she's bringing you presents. Do you reward her at all for doing this? Next time she does it make a fuss of her and be grateful she hasn't brought you something that has/had a pulse.

She thinks you are kittens and would like to educate you on hunting/play.

Mine does the same with a small toy, she also does it with ping pong balls - she'll knock them downstairs and then bring them up again to "chat" with them. Seems happy enough, I just put it down to cats being a bit mental but if there is a better explanation I'd like to hear it smile

My understanding is that your cat is doing it and looking and expecting praise as the has caught something.
My 3 all do it and it doesnt matter if its Tooty "catching" a sponge from the sink or Memphis with a bird they all chirp, purr expect general fuss, applause, brass bands etc!

we have 2 cats... one is laid back and pretty much only makes a noise for food! and the new one we rescued is a bit nuts!! she has been here exactly one week today and she does this middle of the night routine! she is living upstairs at the moment as her and old cat not friends yet, and at about 4am I hear her darting up and down the stairs, in and out of rooms with something in her mouth, usually a toy ball or last night she had found a small foil sweet paper somewhere! I think its just a "mad half hour" like dogs have, using up some energy playing?!

I regularly wake up to find toys on the bed, under the duvet etc where they have obviously been playing with them in the night.

Whenever something is brought to me, I always make a fuss, no matter what it is, after all, it is the thought that counts smile

Bless him, Pepi hasn't quite got the hang of catching things (thank goodness - I don't want both of them bringing Rabbits!), but he got as much fuss over his leaf (including the photo that he posed for) as he sees Bast get over a Rabbit smile

I got home from work one day Alfie (my cat) ran in through the front door ahead of me and disappeared upstairs. He then came down with a sparrow in his mouth, still alive, and not mangled. Brings it up to me and dropped it in my hand (didn't even have to issue the "dead" command) - needless to say that my gundogs were suitably impressed with him. He spent the entire evening sat on my knee purring and feeling like a champ.

One of our old cats used to go into the laundry basket and take my dirty (well, you know, worn. Not "dirty") boxers out and carry them around the house, leaving them all over the place. Was bloody embarassing if we had people coming round.

Both my cats do that with socks... I find them all over the bloody place!

I have this image in my head right now of this super sleek feline killing machine and his slightly slow brother sitting next to him with a vague vacant smile on his face laugh sorry

ps. My cat long ago used to bring me anything she found, and yes, huge oak leaves were amazingly dangerous and just had to be caught and presented often laugh

This is why Cats are such top fun, they have constantly changing behaviour and no-one really knows what is going on inside those heads of theirs.
