My puppy is nearly 9 months old. We have had him since he was 8 weeks ish. He has been on Purina Puppy Robust all that time. He is a heavily built lab - already the size a fully grown dog but his paws are big still. We fed him according to the recommendations on the sack of food and double checked the website and spoke to the vet about this more than once.
He is walked twice a day, regularly wormed etc. But he started to look fat over a month ago. He is now on much less food and is looking much better but he is clearly hungry. I am wondering if anyone has any sage words of advice or recommendations.

YOu did the right thing to reduce the food. Even the best makes over estimate feeding guidelines. It would be helpful to know his current weight and the amount (in grams or ounces, not cups) you feed him per day. He may be having another growth spurt and so need a bit more.

Though obviously he is a lab so food will always be a priority if this way inclined (not all labs are greedy) How does he act which makes you think he is hungry. We sometimes misinterpret attention seeking behaviour with hunger, dogs will use food to gain our attention, it doesn't mean he's hungry.

Also assess his overall body condition, if he has good coat, passes good stools, has muscle tone, good skin etc then he is on the right amount and right sort of food for him.

if he really is hungry split his meals into smaller meals spread over the whole day.Not all dogs are the same so cant really use the food guide on feeds.

now that he's over 9 months old, and pretty much fully grown, height wise. try using the adult food, rather than puppy. we've done the same but with Pro Plan.
