New kitten arrival by the name of Isy and she is approx 10 weeks old now. I believe she was away from her mum at around 5-7 weeks old.

The problem: she suckles on her blanket as she 'makes the bed' in preparation for going to sleep. How can we stop her from doing this as I read this can cause problems later with her chewing her own tail etc.

One of our 2 yr old cats still suckles, kind of sweet really, and it really comforts her.

Please be reassured that I have never ever seen a cat eat its tail due to this.

Don't worry yet. Your kitty is only just settling in with you. It is normal behaviour for a kitten taken away from its Mum tom early.

Kitty may grow out of it naturally otherwise there may be distraction methods you can use. Also Feliway near her bed may help.

Eyelashes!? Are you sure you don't mean eyebrows?

I can't imagine how a kitten could get any purchase on a eyelash without burying itself into her eyesocket!

She'll grow out of it.

When Neko was small she'd suckle on her paws or her brothers paws, she kept doing it for about 18 months. Towards the end of it whenever she got really purry and happy she'd instantly go for her foot and fall asleep after suckling it to death. laugh

I'll monitor and see how we get on. She is settling in well though. Eating ok, drinking ok, sleeping fine. Both cats a bit lethargic in this recent heat and spending increasing amounts of time with each other.
