Campaign to ban circuses with animals - please sign

The Independent has 27,000 people sign it's petition so far. It wants to reach 30,000 by Thursday - article here

Also urges people to contact their MP and ask them to support it - see article.

I rarely sign petitions but I've signed this one. I really hope that people from this forum will show their support too.

Also signed. I thought the UK had stopped lions and tigers being used to perform tricks in the circus and am sad to see it still happening.

Me too.

I think local authorites can ban from council owned land but have no jurisdiction over private land.

I really think that putting a stop to this is long overdue. Zoos have adapted their model due to changes in consumption and appetite. It's time for circuses to do the same.

Signed, I tried to get my local MP to sign for releasing Anne the elephant, she replied with some excuse as to why she couldn't get directly involved, my guess is she will do the same with this one aswell.

ETA I've also linked it to my facebook page so getting signatures through that now

Fantastic news that MPs voted unanimously in favour of a ban today. Brilliant! It can't come into force soon enough.

Excellent news. That has made me happy. Just wish the ban was happening in the US too where they keep orcas in swimming pools at Seaworld and make them perform tricks.
