No it's confined just to dogs. The cat is just using you to stay warm and get some food.

Yep I have a cat like this and it is a proven fact that cats can become over dependant on their owners causing separation issues. There are cats out there that behave more like dogs than some dogs thenselves do!

I also have cats that are more independant and just like the food and warmth offered!!

Rats respond and bond with their human friends and guinea pigs will sort companionship from anything esp their human owner if kept alone (which they shouldn't be)

We have a needy cat like that. The first time we picked her up from the cattery after a holiday, she heard us coming down the corridor and went nuts, chirruping and meowing. She demands to sit on laps. She grabs you with claws if you stop fussing her. She glares malevolently if any of the other cats are getting attention. A very odd puss.

im reasonably confident that none of the snakes, lizards, hamsters, fish or tadpoles ive had have ever shown affection. and the rescued hedgehog was positively grumpy.....the big python is the only one im not sure about.....she's definitely curious and seems to like people (in terms of actively seeking them out to climb on) but not sure its exactly affection.....

I currently have a cat, rabbits, hamsters, a tortoise and rats, and rats are by farrrrrrr the most effectionate! hamsters and other critters seemn to want to get away from you, rats never do and will just sit on your shoulder as you walk about or snuggle in your clothes and sleep, they are great fun!!

they really are. Trust me 3 years ago I hated rats, wouldnt be within 10 feet of one, but my partner agreed to pet sit some as a favor for a few weeks and I fell in love! we now have 5 laugh they are sooooo addictive, and people think they bite, they don't! 4 of ours have never bitten, one has a little nibble as she thinks everything is food! GET RATS!! laugh

I have two ridiculously people-oriented cats and one ‘normal’ slightly aloof one.

Had a lot of affection from guineapigs when I was young, and hens...

They do.

My horse used to put it's arm around me and brush my hair if I was sad.

Personification unfortunately- four legged furry friends don't snow "affection" as we beleive it- they exhibit tendencies which we interpret as affection but really means something different to the animal.

Knowing this i still think my dog loves me!

for all you doubters, here is proof that animals can love you!

this morning, i came downstairs to make coffee, and while the kettle was boiling i looked in on frank the guinea pig... and behind his cage was a card with my name on it!

i opened it, and there was a fathers day card inside. in his best handwriting (which looked absolutely nothing like my wifes) it said...

"dont listen to them, i do love you!"

he must have overheard me telling her about this thread. needless to say, i shall be reviewing his pocket money soon!
