Dog suggestions...
Discussion
Right guys, we have been given permission by our landlord to keep a dog at the property so will be on the hunt once we return from holiday.
Now I am looking for suggestions and guidance!
We both want a Rottweiler and I have had one before when I lived with my parents, I was basically in charge of him and loved Rotty ownership.
However, this is our first dog together and could potentially be left at ours for an ABSOLUTE max of 4 hours a few times a week (work depending). Luckily, we both have family who can check on any pets for us so if the time is an issue for us we will get someone to go round for us.
Anyway.... Do people think a Rottweiler is a wise choice or should we look at other breeds?
Thanks in advance
Tom

Rottweilers are fantastic dogs with the right owners and a good breed line. Lots of dodgy rotti breeders who can just see easy money out there. Dogs of poor temeperament bred from etc.
However get a good one and they are just brilliant . Having worked in a vets for many yrs I've seen my fair share and have to say a good proportion of my favourite all time patients have been rottis. A misunderstood breed again due to types that were at one time owning them (they've moved onto American Bulldogs and Sharpeis now!)
If you feel you have the background experience and knowledge of the breed I don't see why you shouldn't get one. If you want other breed suggestions it would help to know your lifestyle so a you could be recommended a breed to match this.

I don't have huge amounts of experience of rottis, but the ones I've had on foster have been fantastic! Obedient and hilarious.
Being left for a max of four hours a day should not be an issue as long as the dog does not have separation anxiety.
Please think about taking on a rescue rottie. There are so many of them in rescues and they are probably only 2nd to staffies in being pts as they are one of the more 'difficult' breeds to find spaces for If you let me know what area you are in I may be able to suggest a good rescue

Thanks for the quick reply!
Well I am by no means an expert and would still be learning myself, but I worked in a boarding kennels for about a year in my mid teens and I loved it. I have never had any problems with dogs and seem to bond pretty well with all dogs I have met... (apart from that bloody Jack Russell that bit me whilst working at the kennels!)
I know everyone thinks they are the dog whisperer but I am confident and sensible enough to handle most dogs.
I did love being around a Rottweiler and actually met him first through the kennels as his previous owner used to work away quite alot, so we had the pleasure of looking after him!
Our lifestyle is hard to explain, we work Monday to Friday but both work extremely close to home so trips home are not an issue. Both need an excuse for more walking so a dog is going to be brilliant for that and we have no social life to speak of so the dog will get all of our attention! haha...
