Bee? Hornet? We're in India, so that might help...

Thanks

its commonly known as the sub-continental eyeball gouging hornet.
known to be attracted to the smell of fear.
they are most active at night when they try to find fresh eyeballs to lay eggs into but dont worry, the venom in the stinger/ovipositor numbs the pain untill the eggs hatch.

they dont taste too bad either.

We get them about the house here occasionally.

They seem to be occupied by black flying ants. A kettle of boiling water gets rid of them.

(caveat - please check that it is not a hornets nest or similar before applying the boiling water!!)
