Any recommendations for one of these, as I need to stop a feral cat coming in and nicking all of my cats food, and also possibly prevent a new kitten getting out.

Need a fairly large one, as the oldest male is a 7kg big boy.

We looked into these once when we wanted to keep one cat in and two cats allowed to go out but it wouldn't work that way round (they may have updated that now though(also my 2 cats have very old chips with letters in them which aren't recognised by the cat flap so complete non starter for us!!)

We have one of those cat flaps. It recognises the cats 'chip' and every time he sticks his head through it, the mechanism clicks open to allow him to pass through.

Mr Jasper isnt too bright and hence took him a few weeks to work out how to actually use the flap. Now he has the method sorted, he is is and out as he pleases. He loves it. Its his very own VIP entrance.

I had it properly fitted by a double glazing firm, so its a nice fit.

Not cheap, but makes sure our cat is the only one using it.

Jubs a good 'un.

Get the largest one if your cats a fatty.

We use PetPorte and it works perfectly as we have a lot of other cats in the neighbourhood. I think my husband got it off Amazon.

We fitted it ourselves, "scanned" the cats identichip into it and was up and running very quickly.

On battery, the cat can go out instantly, but on returning, it has to press the flap once to activate scanner to read the chip and try again soon after to get in.

It can be run on mains too though in which case it should be instant on returning too.

Some details on here: http://www.microchipcatflaps.co.uk/

Hope this helps smile

I fitted one of these last year. Worth every penny. It's gone almost a year on the same batteries and the cat got used to it in a day or so.

I only wish it included a recorded message to remind the cat to wipe his mucky feet smile
