I know that there are some chicken owners on here and I'm planning to build a new coop for my 4. At the moment they are just in a grassy area surrounded by an electric fence (see pic below).

I fancy building them something a bit special to make a feature of it in the garden - a timber framed coop with an auto feeder / auto waterer and a nice run.

An auto waterer is probably quite easy, although I need to think how I'll stop it feezing in the winter. Auto feeder, I could just have a large rodent proof food section that drops into a feeding tray within the coop.

What other ideas do people have? Let's see a few coops!

I don't have chickens but was surprised to see chicken coops and hen houses for sale in the Wilkinson's store catalogue.

www.wilkinsonplus.com

the website has a choice of 9 in the pets section, seemed out of the ordinary for the store.

You can also buy coops from Argos.

I'm looking at getting one so any tips recommendations are gratefully received. The choice is massive.

Thanks - can't believe that both Argos and Wilkinsons sell coops!

Chickens really must be going mainstream.

I was really after something a bit more bespoke that I can make a realy feature of in the garden

I have the near identical one to the one in wilkinson

Gave it a few licks of preservative before assembling it in the hope it may last a good few years.

Think I am doing it wrong with the chicken though hehe

The house was off the net, £60 cheaper than the wilkinsons one.

The "chicken" turned up one day and wouldn't bugger off.

The current coop setup at my folks house (in true PH fashion the coop has been heavily modified and the run is all custom built (mostly by me) smile ):

And the 3 very pretty chickens (Bonnie, Dusty and Cilla) that live there:

They have free run of the whole garden whenever anyone is about but sadly it is a fairly small garden so can't fence off a larger area just for them as we'd like to.

I miss them and would love chickens at my current place but can't really do it. For anyone thinking about it you should go for it. Great fun to have around, lovely eggs and very entertaining smile
