The dog had to be shot four times? They must now be either bullet proof or whoever shot it needs to be taken off the job. alabbasi said:

I’ve seen some of the bully owners with their dogs, hoods up, face covered, all in black, north face, dog looks terrified, probably called psycho or such like.

thole, have had bad parenting and no guidance whatsoever…….there’s always a pattern to an eventual outcome.
So you're saying that the problem is owners or breeders, and not the breed, which is what the breed advocates are saying.. Considering the # of pit bull dogs here in the US, I very rare hear of them killing anyone. Actually never, I had to look it up. There many abandoned pit bulls just living on the street so they're not even pets, but you don't hear it about it.. My pit bull was one of them for that matter. The mail article was full of sensationalism and this drives the hysteria and many who posted on this thread are hysterical. .

Well cared for dogs don’t just snap for no reason and attack someone.

Thats irrelevant though. Once they snap, they are tricky to get under control without a few bullets. You may be a great handler, but the vast majority are not. Mental dog and average owner makes for a dangerous mix.Well cared for dogs don’t just snap for no reason and attack someone.

I agree and that’s the issue that we are faced with sadly, I still stand by what I say but you are correct, most people don’t understand the type of dog they own, I’ve genuinely never owned such a loving breed of dog but I do fully understand their potential in the wrong hand or mistreated which they often are.I’ve no answers for the issues that we are seeing but I know from all my years of owning them that a loved and cared for dog will never be an issue no matter the breed.

The problem is clearly both.
The stats on deaths by dogs are overwhelmed by one breed
Every time I read someone referring to stats. I immediately think that they don't know what they're talking about. I hear this comment a lot from people on this forum who try to tell me that where I live today is less safe then where I lived in before, even though I've lived in both places and they lived in neither. I also hear this from politicians when they try to tell us that inflation is only 6% when the cost of many goods and labor that I use is up more like 50%.The stats on deaths by dogs are overwhelmed by one breed
The problem with this law is that there's no defined breed and many of these dogs are misidentified. The sensationalism used in the daily mail article reinforces the hysteria.
The numbers are the numbers. In the last 4 years, there were 26 fatalities attributed to dogs and 12 are attributed to Bully XL (a non breed breed). That's over 4 years and there are 67 million people in the UK. That's a 2.5m:1 chance of getting killed by a dog and 5.6m:1 that it's a bully XL

Numbers? If there are 60000 XL Bullys and they have killed 12 that is a 1:5000 chance thry will kill. If the other 12 million? dogs have killed 12 that is a 1:million chance. They are thousands of times more likely to kill than an average dog. Why are XL BUllys not completely banned?

And of the 12 deaths, how many were strangers compared to the owner(s)? Looking at this list in the Mirror, it seems the majority were the owner(s) or part of the household. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/xl-bully-fat...
And how many XL Bully v dog attacks that are probably not reported in the media?
XL Bullys make up less than 1% of dogs in the UK but represent 44% of deaths.
I cannot see how these figures can be defended.

My experience is the same as yours, well cared for dogs don't tend to cause issues towards humans. There are exceptions to the rule though of which I have no personal experience (I've only owned Dobermanns so VERY familiar with their traits!). 'Rage syndrome' was associated frequently with Spaniels, 'Cocker Rage' as they can suffer from a seizure disorder that makes them go nuts. When the 'seizure' has finished, they will look dazed and confused, wonder why your arm is bleeding and will be unaware of what it has done. Belgian Malinois are one of the few breeds that get tested for the A22 gene as they would be a ticking timebomb!okgo said:
Many people have dogs. You aren’t some rarified breed of person that is only qualified to comment.
I didn't say I was. A qualified comment every so often would be nice. You've heard from pit bull owners who posted to this thread. How many were dismissed by ignorants citing statistics that were likey created by ignorants pushing an agenda.Edited by alabbasi on Thursday 4th July 18:20
