Mentioning Jackdaws, I'm seeing huge numbers around this last couple of years. Many more than I recall in previous years.

I can see why the collective term for sparrows is a quarrel! I’ve been putting out over 4 fat balls a day for them (and water) and the numbers are definitely up. A group of around 24 live under the eaves and in the hedges.

Boy, do they fight! smile

I have some wrens too - although they don’t use the feeders.

The Sparrows don’t use my feeders at all in winter, but once their young are on the go, they’re all over them. Like you say, they love the fat balls and I think that’s what they feed them while they’re still in the nest.

Only Cuckoo I’ve ever seen was there.

Meanwhile, balls of steel Wood Pigeon was sitting 3ft from our Sparrowhawk this morning.
No balls. They are literally the stupidest things on the planet with wings.

(the birds have wings, not the planet)

Had a flock of red arrows appear overhead today on their migration south. Does that count?

Yes, it's part of their display behaviour.
