Underneath this, are quite a few fish.

Can't remember what they are though (Koi / Carp or somnething like that?).

This is a fishpond in our office complex.

It looked like this last Xmas, but I don't think it was quite as cold as what it has been this Xmas...

Doubt they'll come to any harm - they'll be ticking over at the bottom at 4 degrees C and as cold water allows plenty of oxygen to dissolve, they should have plenty for their very slow metabolism when cold - likewise they will hardly be using any fuel / food.

However, if, as you say, they're Koi, and you're feeling like doing them a favour, rig up a radio so that they can hear the Queen's speech - Koi are mad on the Queen.

Doubt they'll survive, the ice will trap in toxic gases and kill them.
You need to remove some ice (gently).

For the future celotex insulation boards shielding them from the sky are ace at keeping the top clear and ice free.

Melt some ice out with a kettle of boiling water then do the floating football, hopefully it will keep some of the water clear.

I saw a chap here melting the ice and so on.

Now I know why he was doing it. smile

The pond is nothing to do with us - it is managed by the building facilities manager and his team.
