I just wanted to bounce a few ideas around if that's ok for taking down our chimney next year...

All of the necessary checks have been done involving Building Control, so I'm due to start when the weather gets better.

The chimney in question (of which there are two) is on the left just up from the flat dormer.

My plan is to obviously start at the top, working my way down until I'm beneath the roof which will then be patched up.

The thing that I'm trying to work out at the moment is how to get the bricks down from the roof... Initially I thought I could just drop them down the chimney to a team of mates ferrying the rubble outside, but on second thoughts they would just get caught in the throat and clog up (the bricks, not the mates nuts).

In the photo below, you'll see the issue (ours is the house in the middle)

I'm quite happy donning my climbing gear to get up there, however it will be a bit of an issue with the flat garage roof preventing scaffolding, and the flat roof at the back stopping a tower.

I wondered about hiring a rubble chute, but it looks like it could be a fortune for the length I would need. Short of just lobbing the rubble into the garden, what kind ideas to the PH brain think?! smile

Thanks again!

Scaffolders will work round the flat roof no problem. Shute to a skip in the drive.
Safest way of doing the job.

Definitely a chute. Our builders were too mean to hire one, and took nearly a week to carry it down in big buckets (yes it was a fixed-price job!).
