Hi All

We've just bought a house from an old couple that will (possibly) have a stairlift left in it...does anybody have any inkling of how much its removal would be? It's a straight track in a standard 20 year old house, so not of great length.

Thanks in advance

Andy

Please speak to your local macmillan cancer care*. When my Mother was dying of cancer they were arranging for her to have a stairlift fitted free (on loan) to help her during her last weeks, was too late sadly but the offer was there.

They will no doubt remove it for you free of charge and you'll be doing a good thing.

  • It wont be macmillan who take it, but it differs from county to county who does what, in hampshire it was the occupational health department from the local hospital.

It will depend on what make or model the lift is but do NOT pay anyone to take it out. Depending on its age, state etc will mean whether its worth anything to the trade, newer ones can be re-used and older ones can provide now obsolete parts. Otherwise take it out your self and take it to the local scrap yard, you'll get a pint or two out of it! If you can find a make/model or get photos of it, we could let you know what it is, idea of worth and/or how to remove (the easy way). Other options include ebay, free-ads etc. Feel free to ask questions or PM us.

What's worse is we do a lot of work for them and I have to go to a building site and say 'Hi, I'm Hannah from Stannah' Everytime, that little pause before the grin appears with the little giggle. Only way to stop it is to add 'and I give gob jobs for a fiver' on the end.

When faced with a house, a death and a stairlift I made a phone call.

A company then came and removed the stairlift, paid the estate a few hundred quid for it, then refurbished it and sold it on.
